For the past 6 months I've been paying on a bed from Rent-a-Center. I had to return it at one point because the mattress was infested with bedbugs. Mind you we didn't have them before we bought the bed, but this is only the tip of the iceberg.

When I first saw the bed, there was a showcase showing the price of 37.99/wk, and I was only supposed to make 52 payments (obviously I'm not done paying on it yet). When I decided to buy the bed, I was then slapped with other fees for it, such as one 'Optional Liable Waiver Fee' and a 'Club Fee'. Note that these fees were supposed to be optional, and I only had the intention of paying for just the bed and not this other unnecessary stuff. Here's how that happened.

Now a contract is supposed to be signed so that that you agree to whatever you're supposed to do or whatever, right? And YOU are the one who is supposed to sign this particular contract because YOU are the one paying for whatever you're buying, correct? Well, when I looked at the contract, it seemed to have already been 'signed'. The portions that I had to fill out were already filled out, but not by me. I tried to confront other managers of Rent-a-Center, but they said "There's nothing we can do. YOU signed the contract." I thought the person I purchased the bed from was ducking me this whole time, but it turns out he isn't even working there anymore. I want to stop paying on the bed, because I'm sick of constantly being ripped off and lied to. However, I feel as though I don't have a choice BUT to pay. They threaten to have have the police involved if consumers don't cooperate.

I know that most people who are dealing with Rent-a-Center have had this situation at least once, and I just hope that some light can be shed on my current quagmire.
