My husband and I were shopping for a 10-year anniversary 3-stone diamond ring and, after two months of looking, finally found the one we wanted at Zales. We inspected several rings with a loop to ensure the fewest number of inclusions as possible. The ring we chose had no visible inclusions to the naked eye in the center stone.

After paying for the ring, we sent it off to be sized. I was reluctant to let it go because I wanted to wear it right away, but of course, it had to be sized so it wouldn't fall off my finger while I was wearing it. They assured us it would be back in just a week or so.

I returned to the store after the ring was ready and picked it up. All the way out of the mall I looked at the ring and something just did not seem right. It appeared to be cracked right down the middle of the center stone. I just decided it must be the lighting and I'd look at it with my husband at home and see what he thought. Unfortunately, when he looked at it, the center crack was very visible to him also.

After a week or so of wearing the ring, I decided I just could not live with it so I returned it to the store. The manager, of course, assured us that they would never switch the diamonds and I just must not have noticed it when I bought it. I assured him that I would have noticed a crack across the entire diamond. After much debate, he agreed to exchange the ring, but the ones they had were not acceptable so he said he'd call me when one came in he thought I'd be happy with.

After about three weeks the manager called and was able to swap my ring for one that was more acceptable. The ring was still not as high quality as the original, but I felt I had no choice except to take the new ring and try to be happy. Now, after two years of wearing the new ring, there is a crack in the band along the bottom where they sized the ring. It is a extremely visible and if not repaired soon, the ring will most likely completely split in two. I will definitely take it to another jeweler to have it repaired so that my diamond doesn't get replaced again in the process!!
