I ordered a Plillips/Liteon drive from xboxslave.com. The site list the drive as new and it comes with two day shipping. After one week, no tracking number so I sent an email and it was answered within 48 hrs. I was told drive was shipped, a week later and gave a tracking number.
The drive showed up four days later and when I open the package it was clearly used. I did not attempt to use the drive but open it to see if it was really used. I was shocked to find the printed circuit board had been re-worked with wires soldered across it and the board missing pieces and the unit itself seems to be a casuality of a soldering job gone bad.
I will never make another purchase from that website and you should take your hard earn money elsewhere. It will be a battle to get my money back, and at this point I have to go spend another $50 with someone more credible.

As an Xbox support agent, I hear a lot of complaints about how much repairs cost ($99 usd on the site) through the company and many want to do a self repair. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience trying to change your drive yourself, you obviously sound like you know what you are doing and I can understand wanting to save a bit of money and do the repair yourself.
Not trying to be rude, however, if you would have just paid $99 on Xbox.com, your shipping to and from the repair center is covered, the console is repaired and all parts serviced and tested and you are also covered for 90 days after the repair for any kind of defect. This 90 day warranty is expandable with service contracts as well to extend to 1 or 2 years additional coverage.
Also, just to let you and anyone else who may be reading this, self repair is not allowed with an Xbox. Once an Xbox is cracked open, it breaks internal anti tamper seals. Also, in a lot of cases, when a self repaired console is connected to Live, an update is normally prompted. You accept an update and suddenly it stops, giving an error code. The update is also scanning the system for any internal tampering, if it finds it, guess what? You have a brick. Customer service can't help you and any attempts at having a repair will find it shipped back with a form letter stating that there was evidence of internal tampering and it will not be repaired, with your repair fee refunded.
