I would like to inform the rest of the oh, so gullible population what a waste of money John Robert Powers is. I found them on the internet, because I wanted to act. I would not call myself a beauty queen, and prefer to act and write scripts and music.

I sent off for the flyer and they promptly made an appointment for me to get "camera tested". They tested me in front of the crowd of other potential victims and I wowed the audience. I did great as well in front of the camera. They then took me back to the back office and told me I was accepted into their "prestigious" acting and modeling school; because I was talented and beautiful, ha!

After attending the school, they told me I needed to work my way up and eventually get into actual acting classes. So, I was in image class and all they wanted to teach was ettiquite and how to set a table. They told me I was "way too short" for runway, and yelled at me constantly when I couldn't walk runway, (Hey, I'm short, Spanish-American and have scoliosis~!)

After a while I developed kidney stones and was forced to miss several Saturdays of classes. They seemed empathetic, and assured me my money would be refunded and that I could make up the classes.

Also, when I joined JRP I was PROMISED in contract form that my headshots, with 3 changes of clothing from THEIR photographer would be included with my $1,800. $1,800 is not easy for a single mom to afford, and consequently throw down the drain.

I was never allowed my makeup classes, after a few makeup classes; and they pictures were not allowed either. They wanted almost $1,000 for these photos to occur. I would not send my worst enemy to this scumbag, "modeling school".

I worked for the John Robert Powers in Houston for two years. I watched all the key players and managers from behind the scenes, and made many observations.

As an ex employee here is what I can tell you I witnessed....

I personally witnessed several of the students at JRP Houston book commercials, TV shows, and movies. A kid named Davis booked a national McDonalds commercial, and did a pilot for a FOX TV pseries called "Sons of Tuscon." Another kid named Grant Kleeman did a movie with Eva Longoria called "Lower Learning".

The opportunity provided at John Robert Powers Houston is very real. Just because you are selected, does not mean you are going to be a Hollywood Star overnight. The kids that break into the business work very hard to get where they are.

My daughter loves John Robert Powers Houston

My daughter is 10 years old. She wasn't interested in sports, dance, or cheerleading. She was very shy, and I was looking for ways to get her out of her shell. She expressed an interest in acting, so I took her to a John Robert Powers audition here in Houston on North Post Oak. I explained to their National Director that I just wanted my child to build some self confidence.

Stacy has now been attending JRP for the past year. She LOVES it! She built up so much confidence, and has come a long way. She has met with several of the JRP Disney stars that have come into their office to work with the kids.

For those of you out there reading this, remember that JRP is an ACADEMY. Its not an agency, something explained on their website, catalogs, and everywhere else they advertise. I met with some of the parents who's children were booking some commercials. Thats great, but I am not that interested in my daughter being famous, or even becoming a working actress. I am not a stage dad, I just want my child to do what she loves to do.

Stacy and I are very thankful for the entire JRP Houston staff!

My son loves JRP! The instructors are great and the entire staff is quite supportive. My husband was skeptical in the beginning, but now he is happy we enrolled our son. I am not sure why he was skeptical, John Robert Powers is a state licensed career college, but dads will be dads.

We wanted to get our son into the industry, but didn't know where to go. We definately were not going to uproot our family and move to Los Angeles. It is significantly cheaper to go through JRP than to move to LA or NY.

So I enrolled my son into John Robert Powers Houston in early 2009, and have never looked back. My son has done 2 commercials in the past year. One national commercial and one local commercial. It took us a while to book them, but my son stuck with it, and kept improving his acting through their workshops.

It amazes me how many cranky stage parents hit the internet when their child doesn't become a star overnight. I have seen those stage parents when I go to the JRP office in Houston. They want thier kids to get a project ASAP, and it doesn't work that way. When we signed up, they told us very directly that JRP does not guarantee work. They are a school, and agents fly in to check out their kids for different projects.

My son continues to be optimistic about his acting career thanks to John Robert Powers in Houston.
