Centex Home Equity Mortgage Company Ripoff. Extra payment taken AFTER a mortgage was paid off and closed!

On the 10th of December, 2001, I re-financed my home asn paid off the Centex Home Equity Company. Unsure prior to the re-fiance, I held back the November payment pending word on the closing. I received a phone call regarding the closing and was told to go ahead and make the payment for November. I called Centex and arrainged a phone payment to be made on November 30, 2001. On December 3,2001, we closed on the ree-financing. On my arrival home I noticed that Centex had NOT taken the payment and since we had a payoff amount and we were closed, I assumed all was well. I then used the money to pay other bills, utilities, credit cards, etc.

Imagine my suprise to find that Centex took the payment anyway on Dec. 8th. I further found that the payoff was received by Centex on Dec.10, 2001. I found out during a phone call with my new lender that the payoff amount was figured without the November payment, so basically they took an extra payment of 1165.00 in December right before Christmas!

My problem is that Centex has refused, to this day, Jan. 13, 2002 to refund my money stating they keep it for 30-45 days pending an audit of my account!! On Friday past, Jan. 11, 2002, we again called to find that Centex shows an overage of a bit over 1200.00, but told us rudely and simply that we won't see the money for at least 9 weeks!! WHY? WHY?? WHY?? I need that money as it set us back an entire month of budjeting. I see no reason that Centex should first of all, steal that payment, then use MY money without paying any intrest, nor even attempting to return it! These individuals are rude, and without and semblance of professionalism, except when they WANTED my business!! And I wouldn't recommend them to anyone looking for an honest sincere lender.
