CITIFINANCIAL MORTGAGE CO. Refusing to give pay-off balance for 2 years Dallas Texas

In 1996 we financed with Ford Consumer Finance. The mortgage then went to Associates after a few years and then to Citifinancial in 2001. We were always told two to three times a year that we were behind 2-months so we were always behind in our payments. They would make us a deal whereby we could put the late months at the end of the mortgage with no additional penalties(per their customer service rep.)

We tried several times to get a payoff amount but there was always an additional $20,000 dollars added on to the mortgage that we questioned because they could never tell just what it was for. They said they thought it was for maintenance fees. (?) So we just stayed in the house and kept paying.

Finally in 2005 I had to retire. I wanted to sell my house and had several offers but I could not get a payoff amount from them in order to solidify any of the offers on my house. I hired a lawyer and he got (3)three different payoff amounts from their lawyers. We got no answer from them until March of 2007 goving us a hearing date for a certain amount. They sent a payment history in December of 2006.

I have lost money these two years because I could not even re-finance my mortgage without a balance due amount. This company is not right and fair. What can I do now?
