Back in November of 2008 I started the process of trying to refinance my home loan with Countrywide and to pay off a portion of my home equity line of credit and refinance in order to reduce my monthly payments.

I was told I would have to pay $359.00 up front. I did so. They had my home appraised. They then contacted me via phone and told me that I would need to eliminate $13,000 worth of debt on my home equity line of credit in order for them to make the loan. I did so. I contacted them and let them know that amount had been deleted from my line of credit. I waited and waited to hear from them.

All conversations with the loan officer, Nicholas Hanks were made over the phone. There was no correspondence made by phone or email on their part other than to say they were working on my application and to leave a phone number to reach them, which I couldn't get them to return any calls left.

At the end of January 2009 I received a letter from Countrywide saying they could not do the loan since I had "insufficient liquid assets to close the loan".

I was told, on the phone, that if I could eliminate the $13,000 from my home equity line of credit I was more or less going to be able to get the loan.

I am really upset with this company since I had to pay upfront, was told I could get the loan if certain things were done, waited forever, called them to inquire on the status and never could speak to anyone after the things they asked do were completed, then received their "turndown" letter.

I did not have any delinquencies on my credit report and had always paid extra on each mortgage payment to them over the years and extra always on my home equity loan.

I felt they didn't really try hard enough to help a "excellent" customer in a time of need.
