I have been researching private mortgage insurance charges being paid by a friend of mine. During a conversation, I was horrified to find out she was payint $633.00 per month. I used a PMI calculator online and found her payment should be $156 per month. Anyone else with this problem? Not sure where to start with this.

It is really tough to calculate mortgage insurance as there are quite a few things that can effect it and without the specific information about the loan, you cannot possibly figure it out. It depends on what percent of coverage that the lender or investor requires. While that seems steep, it depends totally on credit score, loan to value and loan size.
