I contacted Fairbanks in Dec 02 and asked if I could defer my Jan 03 payment (put at the end of the loan).
They advised me that they do not provide that option. I asked them what options do you have to assist homeowners when they have a financial hardship. They said none.
They advised me on 2/26/03 at 1:30 that the only options I have is to either pay the loan or default and lose my home.
I requested a copy of their policy stating what they do and don't offer. The representative told me that they don't have anything in writing to send me. He then cut me off and asked if there was anything else I wanted to inquiry about.
I told him that I thought it was strange that your company has nothing in writing to send homeowners about thier options. He again cut me off and hung up. I find this practice unbelievable.
They are forcing working class homeowners to default on their homes.
Everyone goes through a rough time but for a company that is not willing to help you is crazy. I need to know who to contact. HELP.

AT HUD's website "help for Homeowners" at http://www.hud.gov/offices/hsg
/sfh/econ/smhlend.cfm
The following blurb is posted:
"The federal government and the mortgage industry have partnered to assist those homeowners who have been negatively impacted by recent changes in the economy, or are concerned about the future. The mortgage lenders listed below are voluntarily participating in this special effort. If your lender is listed here, you can help protect your home by contacting them immediately!"
Guess what - Fairbanks is listed! I strongly encourage you to file a complaint with HUD and let them know that Fairbanks is not working with you. If you go to their website you can find email contacts for various HUD departments, including one called "predatory lending".
Good luck.
