Traveling on I80 from Chicago to California. Checked in at Motel 6 Council Bluffs, IA Front clerk said nothing about area unsafe, gave me a room in back, no lighting, dark. I was single mom traveling alone. I was moving so I had everything I own in the car. I was called at 3:00 a.m. by front desk to tell me police found my car windows smashed and all my things stolen. Police could care less, said there is many break-ins in the area. Learned that the towm is full of crack and drugs. Then when I was crying in the lobby a customer asked why, when I told them the management threw me out of the hotel"because I was disturbing th customers" It was -10 degrees and I had no car, my dog, and a few bags of things that were not taken. I called corporate office, and they said there was nothing they could do. These people are horrible, and my opinion is that they are part of the scheme as an inside job to rob people. Never never stay here, besides the robbery it was dirty, full of street people, just disgusting. As I was taking my stuff out of the room the manager locked me out of the building so I could not come in out of the cold. I'm a medical professional who in my entire life has never experienced something like this. i would not reccomend stopping in Counci Bluffs period!!!

I feel your pain. I have traveled I-80 from Cleveland to Colorado in the past and just had my car windows smashed in and all my belongings taken from me on January 8th. I stayed at the Western Inn off Madison on Exit 5 in Council Bluffs. The police made a quick report and the motel personnel didn't care. I have never had anything stolen from me in my life and find it difficult to cope with. I am curious if there is some connection with the hotels since we were both traveling alone and had our dogs with us and were moving everything. Makes one wonder but nobody seems to care. All I know is I won't be passing thru Iowa or Council Bluffs any time soon.

Wasn't the Motel 6 dirty and "full of street people" when you checked in?? Then why did you stay there? Why stay at an in-town motel when you are on an Interstate? Next time stay at a Marriott, Hampton Inn, or other non-budget motel outside town and avoid downtown areas. Did the area where your motel was look bad when you checked in? It wasn't about to change that night.

They endangered your life by leaving you outside when it was 10 below. You should've called the police again and told that that you had nowhere to go and you paid for your room. If you lived locally, you should've taken them to small claims court.
