We hired Fidelity Van Lines to move us from Berkely CA to Asheville NC on July 19th 2007 at which point we were told it would be 14 to 21 days till they delivered. We stressed how much we needed our belongings and that we were self employed and they would be moving everything we used to earn our living.

We were assured that we had nothing to worry about. It has been five weeks yesterday since Fidelity Van Lines picked up our belongings and as of now they are sitting in a warehouse in LA.

When i call they don't answer, when i leave a message they don't return my call, and the few times that I have got to talk to someone they have lied to me telling me our things would be leaving on a certain day and when it didn't show up I called to find out it was still in the warehouse.

No one has been willing to help.I have had to find part-time work to create income for my wife and myself because we can't work. They are holding our belongings hostage and simply don't care.Yes they have broken the contract but the realy sad part is that my wife and I have worked very hard the last five years building our business and we are getting very close to losing everything we have worked so hard to build because of Fidelity Van Lines.

Not Much You Can Do

AUTHOR: Jim - Anaheim (U.S.A.)

Tony, I don't know where you found this company but I suspect it wasn't out of the Yellow Pages near you in Berkeley. The moving industry is one of the most corrupt ones out there and if you want a full-service move performed, then the only choice you should have made is with a major company. Small companies like this drop your items in a warehouse until they get enough shipments to fill a truck before they head in your direction. Often, that takes quite a while and certainly longer than 5 weeks sometimes.

Legally, they have 30 days from the last date of the delivery window (about 51 days from the date of your pickup) to deliver your items before they can be fined by the DOT; this is probably in the small print of your contract. I guess that would put the latest delivery date somwhere around September 10th or so? While they technically haven't violated the law or their contract, I think what they did stinks.

You might be able to try moverescue and see if they might be able to help you with your situation. Otherwise, there is little you can do at this point.
