NOW TO THE ORIGINAL REPORT THAT WAS FILED =====================
White Glove Moving and Storageripoffs Jersey City, held my things ransom extoritng money not owed
I contracted "White Glove Moving and Storage" in September of 2001. After recieving several estimates from other movers, I decided on them because their storage facility where my belongings were to be stored was in the city where I was going to live, Knoxville.
I told them that the move was for a full pack and that my things were to be taken to the storage facility in Knoxville. They gave me a contract to sign which I did and I sent in the deposit. On the day of the move, the movers were not only 8 hours late, but showed up with 7 wardrobe boxes for a FULL PACK! Needless to say, they could not complete the move so they left that evening, went to an office supply company and purchased the necessary moving supplies.
Two days later, they finally finished the move (as the new owners of my home were trying to move in)and the driver presents me with the outrageous invoice which I refused to sign.
He told me that if I didn't sign they would unload my things in the front yard. So I signed the form adding "under duress" under my signature. They left with $4600.00 and all my belongings. Then they took my things to someplace in Georgia.
I called the company and told them that I was very displeased with the service and wanted a discount or to at least only pay the cost of the estimate. When they told me they would not release my furniture until I paid them cash in full, I consulted a lawyer who told me that it is illegal for them to hold my furniture. I contacted the company again and told them that I was
going to go with the Sheriff in Georgia to pick up my things and he told me "Well, try to find your things, then".
So basically they held my things for ransom until i paid them a considerable amount over the estimate. When my things arrived, I had, among other damages, black mold growing on several items including my dining room table, scratched and dented appliances, and several missing items. I filed a claim with the claims
department five weeks ago and have yet to hear from them. So I am out over 7,000.00 and have a lot of damaged stuff!!!
