I signed up for this service last year and it was going alrite until now..I recently was laid off and they have been calling me non-stop (once they called 11 times in one day!) about getting new payment information. They payment is $39.90 a month for about 3 magazines I wanted to receive and about 5 I do not want.

I've called them numerous times exclaiming I have lost my job (have been unemployed now for 4 months) and wish to cancel. They tell me I cannot cancel because I was given that opportunity within 10 days of signing up. They also claim the $39.90 a month is only for shipping of these magazines, which I find very hard to believe. They say I cannot cancel because they have already paid the publisher's price and I am paying them back, which I also find hard to believe because you can change magazines at any time.

Also, if I was told when I first signed up that I would be getting these magazines anywhere from 3 to 5 years, I would NEVER have taken the offer. That is a ridiculous amount of time and you never know what can happen (such as losing my job). Also, I was told when I signed up and on another occasion they would be sending me two free gifts; one a tennis bracelet and one a watch. I have been with them for a year and have yet to receive either.

I closed my bank account (due to them taking money out and making me negative) and now I am dreading the harassing phone calls. I am barely getting by with rent, causing a great deal of stress on my poor grandma because if I can't pay this, they will probably try to go after her. I simply cannot afford this anymore and they don't care.

My Problem Is Solved

After frequently calling and talking to their managers with each time getting a refusal from them to cancel my account I did the following:

I closed my bank account (out of a job anyways), I filed a report with the BBB and also never responded to their calls and bill invoices.  They would send me a bill multiple times a month as well as harass me with multiple times a day.  Oh, and not to mention I have had my cell phone shut off (again, no work) and they don't have my home phone number.  The last bill I received from these scammers was in April of this year (2009) and it is early October and I haven't had contact with them since.  I do believe this has solved my problem as I also haven't received any kind of summons from them or threatening letters.  Thank God!
