This story isn't different from other ones about NCIC on this site. My wife was returning from Argentina and her flight had come in an hour early. And her cellphone had died. So she decided to call me to let me know that she had arrived. She decided to use a payphone in the airport. She used her credit card to make these calls.

A few weeks later we received the credit card bill and see that each call (that should have cost about 75 cents or a dollar) cost over 9 dollars. This is highway robbery. I called NCIC and the agent matter of fact-ly explained that each call carries a connection fee of $7.14 and each subsequent minute is billed at $1.14 and the rest of it is government taxes. I was struck speechless.

I have contacted the San Francisco International Airport and alerted them to this scam. Please do so if you've encountered this too.
