I what to report this charity as a scam.

A few days ago I get a call from a company asking for a donation for Youth Development Fund. They say they have a program called "A Child's Dream". It helps make wishes come true for dying children. So I think "that seems nice", but the one thing that gets me thinking is that this sounds like the Make a Wish Foundation. This is a pretty common scam trick. Make it sound like a reputable charity.

I start to look into this company and I am glad I did. It ended up saving me $35. This company only uses about 8% of its funds on actual programs that help kids. Check it out on charitynavigator.org. They where the lowest rated charity on their site. The rest is used to pay the CEO and there professional fund raising company (which is another scam all together). Even Bill O'Reilly did a report on this scam charity.

Please, please save your money and send it to an actual charity that will use your gift to help others and not just help themselves. Always look up charities on the internet before you send a donation.

Scammed my aging parents

AUTHOR: m.r. - marco island (USA)

I tried to file a report on this myself, but for some reason the website will not allow me to.  A woman telemarketer working on behalf of Youth Development Fund has been harassing us almost daily, and there's no way for me to stop it.

It seems to be a (somewhat) sophisticated con job - sophisticated in how trained this woman was in 'selling' the deal, telling me how the 'children' rely on our funds, for trips to Disney world and the like, trying first to extort 50 bucks from us, then gradually working it down to 20, not letting me get a word in.

When I started questioning the percentages, she clammed up and was unable to answer specific questions.  Thank God for the internet, since while she was on the phone with me, I went to the website they provided me (www.youthdevelopmentfund.org), it looked suspiciously like a front.  Pictures of smiling kids and whatnot, and an address and phone number for Rick Bowen in Knoxville tennessee.  Further investigation, and typing 'Youth Development Fund Scam' in google led me to this site, plus many other mentions of them involved in embezzlement and fraud activity.

What isn't so sophisticated is how the criminal, Rick Bowen, left his phone number and address on the website for people to call.  He gave me a personal call back called me a 'mother&*$(' for accusing him of fraud.  When I threatened to go to the police, he hung up.

This is unconscionable, using sick children as a front for an fraud scheme.

How do I make these people stop?

It's disgusting.  I bet Rick Bowen will be in church tomorrow.  But this guy's going to hell, and he knows it, taking in a 500,000$ a year salary on the back of sick children.

Be smart.  Do your research.  This stuff happens all the time.  If one of my folks would have picked up the phone instead of me, I never would have caught this.
