Same as all the previous reports. I received a call from a woman stating that they were the supplier for the toner for our copy machine.

She actually knew the make and model which is what confused me.  She said that she was required by the company to let us know that the cost of the toner had increased.  She apologized for calling *AFTER* the price had changed.  She mentioned that we should have received notice in writing, but that there had been an error and the company did not get the notices out in time, and that was why she was calling.  However, she said she had been able to catch our outgoing scheduled toner order before it went out, and was able to change it to the previous rate of $349.00. YIKES!  It all happened so fast, and she spoke in such a rush it was over quite quickly.

I did wonder about it, but was too busy to do any follow-up.  I then received another call from a guy in a warehouse wanting to confirm our mailing address.

The following day I received another call from another woman wanting to confirm our billing information.  I got her to put the order "on hold".  It was then that I double checked and found out that our toner is provided fere as part of our copier rental agreement.  Grrrrr!

Stuff like this gets me REALLY upset!!!  I hope that someone files a suit against these creeps!!

Me too

AUTHOR: Leann - Springfield (U.S.A.)

These people have called me too.  I knew it was a scam since I am the one that orders the toner so I was able to get rid of them fairly easily but just imagine someone new working at a company that doesn't know any better.  Thanks for posting this so you can help others be aware.

These people have called me too.  I knew it was a scam since I am the one that orders the toner.  When I asked what company she was with, I got the run around.  That was my tip off that she was not the supplier.  Just imagine if you were new to a company and didn't know any better.  You may not have a job afterwards.  Thanks for posting this so others can be aware.

Common tactics

AUTHOR: Ramjet - Somewhere (U.S.A.)

I am the tech director at a school system and I get calls from toner people all the time.  Toner sales people are the most obnoxiously agressive and dishonest of all the marketing people who call.  They have all sorts of creative stories.

Do NOT buy toner from anyone except your regular supplier.  Don't trust any of them.

I could go on for pages relating the ridiculous stories they tell.  Don't argue with them, they have all the responses.  If they won't take no for an answer, hang up on them and don't respond to their calls.

Once they get their hooks into you they're hard to get out.  Don't let them send you a sample no matter what they say.

I was warned by someone else so I never fell for it but I know people who have.
