I sold a phone on eBay. I received a confirmation from eBay that my item sold, listing a shipping address. I later received an email from PayPal telling me that they had received funds from the buyer.

I offered insurance; the buyer declined. The item did not arrive, according to the buyer, and she then told me that I had the wrong address - a 3-year old address that she used to live at - and that I should have sent it somewhere else. I am not psychic.

The buyer then opened a complaint and PayPal took $182.16 from my account. Despite the fact that the seller admitted in our correspondence that she gave me an old address, and despite providing evidence to PayPal that I sent the item to the address she gave me, and despite my  100% feedback over 7 years, and despite never receiving my phone back, they decided in her favor and began to call me demanding that I pay them back the $182.16.

I did so after speaking to them on three separate occasions, after emailing them the USPS receipt and copies of the eBay correspondence between the buyer and I, and sending several supporting emails.

I see this as common theft; the buyer - according to eBay - MUST keep their details up to date. She failed to do so, and now I've lost my phone, my $182.16, and my 100% feedback rating.

Insurance is a MUST

AUTHOR: Christiana - Cincinnati (U.S.A.)

When selling on ebay, a lot of you sellers are under the impression that it is up to the buyer to purchase insurance.  It isn't.  If something is paid for with Paypal and I don't get it, then yes, it comes out of your pocket.  Thats why YOU should buy insurance.  That way you have something to go on.  That insurance is for you.  Until that item reaches me, despite people saying after it leaves their hands they are not responsible,  it is a waste of typing.  It holds no water.  In fact when I see that, I always hit the back button because these people don't have any idea how this works.  Many sales have been lost due to that ignorant statement.  The best thing you can do is read your agreement and that way you won't get any surprises.  Good luck! :)
