I noticed the name of the company on my VISA statement the day the transaction was made and I knew immediately it was something I did not authorize. I called the bank immediately and opened a dispute but in chit-chatting with the bank employee, she mentioned something I found worth exploring. She said that it could be either a true unauthorized transaction the company made on my card or it could have been something in fine print that I missed on one true transaction.

I started digging and I found out the way they operated in my case. I bought a product from an online company (TigerDirect) and with the purchase there was a "coupon" for $15 off toward my next purchase from them. The confirmation email invited to signing up to such and such site in order to activate the coupon. That site, from WLI*RESERVATIONREWARDS.CO, confirms eligibility for the $15 coupon for TigerDirect, lists a number of other sites or categories of products from which one can get more discounts and then asks for confirmation of you personal information. After doing this I closed the link and did not pay more attention to the emails I received. When I went back to those emails I noticed that, in fact, the coupons and discounts are "guaranteed" for a monthly fee of $10, automatically deducted from my VISA card, the one I used to pay for the original TigerDirect product.

I suppose technically I agreed unknowingly to have $10 deducted and two lessons are important. 1) When it comes to your money, no transaction is safe, and at least carefull reading appears important even when you think you know what you pay for (I thought only credit card agreements and mortgage contracts deserve this level of attention). 2.) Checking your card's statements as often as possible, but at least once a month, even when paper bill is the only option. I may have lost $10 but I prevented loosing ten each month indefintely.
