Costumes4Less.com is deceptive in their advertising and provides no reasonable means to seek a resolution.  

This Halloween, I purchased a costume from this online retailer.  The costume would not be complete without the wig and fake beard.  The website stated that these were NOT included in ~$40 price for the costume.  It offers them as separate purchase for an additional ~$22 dollars as well as an additional ~$7 shipping (to Hawaii).  When I received my package, I discovered that the basic costume included the beard and wig.  Now I have two and I've wasted approximately $30 as a direct result of false statements on Costumes4Less.com's website.

Angry and frustrated, I went back to their website and verified the item number on the packing list against the one that I ordered.  I discovered that they did match and that the website still stated that the beard and wig were not included.  I took a screen shot of that page and scanned the packing list as evidence to bring to the company.  I then went to their website to seek a refund and a return authorization.

The only option for returns is to use their automated form which only allows a refund of the purchase price and shipping costs for items that were defective or not as ordered.  Since the second wig was as ordered but ordered as a result of Costumes4Less.com's deceptive advertising, these categories did not apply.  

I clicked on the link to contact the corporate office which is next to a statement in bold text that they will only respond when warranted.  The link opens a form to submit your email address and comments.  Needless to say, they apparently felt my concerns did not warrant a response.  I am still trying to determine how to return this thing and get my money back.

We included the accessories in the price of the costume without raising the price of the costume and shipped the accessories to the customer free of charge.

We have a very reasonable return policy which is posted on the site. It allows us to take care of customer satisfaction while keeping our prices low. Costumes4Less.com goes out of its way to ensure that all information about products and policies is as accurate and clear as possible.

With over 20,000 products and 50,000 order per year,  and errors do happen sometimes. As soon as an error is detected, it is immediately corrected.

We believe that posts such as this are misleading, spread incorrect information about the company and do disservice to community at large. Costumes4Less.com not only obeys all laws but also maintains the highest standards of ethical business behavior. We are very proud of our large base of satisfied customers and will make every effort to ensure that each and every customer is satisfied with our products and service.

Please, don't be fooled. Simply claiming to be ethical does not actually mean a company is ethical.

First, this retailer claimed that they: "included the accessories in the price of the costume without raising the price of the costume and shipped the accessories to the customer free of charge"

This is misleading because:
1) It implies that the retailer did something, other than posting this rebuttal, to resolve the situation which they have not done.  Neither my original attempts to contact the company nor this report have resulted in any response, to me, from this company.

2) It dodges the original complaint.  The accessories WERE included in the price of the costume.  The website expressly stated that they were not.  It was not a false assumption on my behalf and I have included a screenshot of the web page (taken today) that shows that they are still claiming this item does not include the accessories (specifically the wig and beard) directly above the words "Sorry this item is out of stock".  At the checkout, they suggest purchasing the accessories separately which is where the additional charges come in.  Since they are in fact included, you end up with duplicates that you did not need.

Second, the retailer claims that they: "have a very reasonable return policy which is posted on the site."

Their policy IS reasonable, however their mechanism for processing (the online form) is completely inflexible and it doesn't account for a mistake of this nature.  This could be forgivable if the company had a customer service number that allowed them to handle these issues in a more personal way.  They don't.

Third, the retailer stated that: "As soon as an error is detected, it is immediately corrected."

The fact that the included image has a date (top right, below the McAfee logo) proves that the company has not corrected this error despite my contacts and this report.

Finally, they have stated that they "will make every effort to ensure that each and every customer is satisfied with our products and service."

I am a customer and I am not satisfied.
