As many of you are likely aware, eBay changed their feedback policy over a year ago to prevent sellers from leaving negative feedback.  However, you may not be aware that eBay's Feedback Abuse Policy allows a buyer to leave slanderous remarks that contradict a positive feedback score left by that same buyer.  A seller however is not allowed to leave a slanderous or inflamatory remark in contradiction of a positive comment.  Here are the specifics of eBay's Feedback Abuse Policy and the criteria for removing slanderous or inflamatory remarks:

Feedback comments containing any of the following are not permitted:

·         Links or scripts

·         References to eBay or PayPal investigations

·         Negative statements left for a buyer that conflict with the positive rating

·         Personally identifying information about another member, including real name, address, phone number, or email address

·         Political, religious, or social commentary rather than a genuine comment about the transaction

·         The comment, reply, or followup references a completely separate transaction or unrelated experience

·         Profane, vulgar, obscene, or racist language, or adult material

·         Inflammatory language, such as fraud, liar, cheater, scam artist, con man, while strongly discouraged, will not be removed unless found to be in violation of one of the above guidelines

Please note the third bullet point on the list.  "Negative statements left for a buyer that conflict with the positive rating" are not allowed.  However, this explicitly implies that Negative statements left for a "seller" that conflict with the positive rating "are allowed"

Thus eBay has yet again slanted the playing field in favor of the buyer.  Seller's are not allowed to leave a negative feeback even in the case of fraud or theft.  In addition the buyer IS allowed to leave slanderous remarks that directly contradict a positive rating they have given, but seller's are not afforded the same opportunity.

Thus eBay has created an environment in which it is acceptable policy (ie promotes) buyers leaving sellers counter factual and publicly slanderous remarks without recourse for the party of the seller that may have been impaired by such slander.

This is Ripoff Report

AUTHOR: Flynrider - Phoeix (U.S.A.)

Perhaps you have this site confused with Whiners' Report.    You have not been ripped off.   Ebay owns their site and can make up any rules they like.  You're free to do business elsewhere.  Now stop whining and get back to work.

What's the issue?

AUTHOR: Edgeman - Chico (U.S.A.)

Are you complaining that buyers have the ability to leave "slanderous feedback" or are you complaining that you cannot leave "slanderous feedback" as a seller and would like to?

Who is offering these rebuttals?

AUTHOR: Robert - Grand Prairie (USA)

Let's see, "whiners' report"...name calling?, what a well constructed and argued point of logic.  Maybe my title for this should be there are too many immature individuals in this world with nothing better to do than mind someone else's business...nah too long.

"What's the issue?"...thought that was pretty clear...uneven playing field, ebay does not protect sellers from slander, but does protect buyers, thereby ebay promotes/endorses the slander of sellers...but I guess a more pessimistic and/or unscrupulous person would probably view this as 'not providing the opportunity to slander in return'.

Do you represent ebay?  Do you have personal knowledge of this particular problem?  Do you have anything relevant to contribute?
