I bought a Cavalier King Charles puppy from this location for a price of $2200. I know it's a lot of money but I was assured this was a healthy puppy from a good breeder. I took her home and she had persistent diarrhea. I called the store and they told me to take her to their recommended vet, Camino Pet Hospital. I took her in and they tested her for Giardia and test came back negative. They said she had kennel cough and gave me some medicine.

The problem of diarrhea continued so I took her to a different vet that was recommended by a friend. This vet gave her the Giardia test and it came back positive. He said she has probably always had it. And the test that was given to her before to find the Giardia was an inferior test that cost less to perform. So, I have had my sick little puppy since March 6, 2007 and I have $400. in medical bills related to her sickness. I think this place should be shut down and not allowed to sell animals. This sickness has compromised my puppies growth and who knows what further complications will occur in the future.....

DO not buy a puppy from this place!!!!

Very sad puppy owner-

Parasites in Puppies

AUTHOR: Julia - Mission Viejo (U.S.A.)

Dear April,

Parasites unfortunately are a very common thing in puppies, something they get from their parents. By California law they are not considered an illness and do not fall under the 15 day general health guarantee our puppies come with. The test taken at Camino Pet Hospital was the same test the other hospital used a few days later. Sometimes a fecal test is negative but an other one on the same day ends up being positive. If you would have taken your puppy back to Camino they would have provided you with the medication for free, they do that as a courtesy to our customers.

After a 10 day cure giardia is taken care of and will not cause any further complications.

The vet your friend referred you to should be challenged for this outrageous bill to treat parasites which is extremely common in all puppies whether they come from a pet store, a shelter or a private breeder. As far as testing for parasites, all vets use a standard test and there is no such thing as an "advanced" testing procedure for parasites.
