    ...the right way!
    Corporate Advocacy Program
During the holiday season I went to the West Bloomfield PetSmart on 14 and Orchard Lk. At this time I was shopping for fish to fill up an aqaurium that I've had up and running successfully for YEARS! I was graciously helped in the aqautic section and recommended various fish for my aqauarium, however it was much to my dismay that these fish had a terrible fish disease called ICK! While I was unaware to this fact the store staff and managers were not. When I arrived at the location to return the fish I was sold and inform them that they had killed over 200 dollars in fish I previously had, another young girl in the same area I had purchsed the ill fish who told me that the store knew of the fish having this highly contagious disease and was told by their store manager, SATISH, to sell them anyway. When I talked to him about this situation he was very rude blowing me off and telling me it was my fault for picking those fish. NEVER denying that he didnt know of this problem, actually he acknowledged it by say yes and nodding as I told him this problem!!!

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Ick

AUTHOR: Bittercashier - Los Altos Hills (U.S.A.)

Ick is a common fish scale ailment that can be cured with an inexpensive drop that is sold in most major pet stores. Although the company shouldn't have sold you a sick fish, it is up to you, the pet owner, to know what to look for when purchasing your animal. Ick is usually visible on the scales and should be dealt with as soon as diagnosed or else it can be transferred to other fish in the tank. Sometimes it clears up on it's own, sometimes it kills 200 some dollars in marine life.

Petsmart definetly needs to find a better way to deal with sick animals-- I know because I work at one but, honestly, it could have happened in any pet store.

Sorry and he is gone!

AUTHOR: Willy Kemble - Farmington Hills (U.S.A.)

The Manager in Question was fired the day after Christmas for unknown reasons! we think it was due to Racism, Homophobia, and Sexist views of incidents at the store. He also had horrible customer service and didnt know a thing about animals! As far as the Fish, I can say with full confindence that it was an unfortunate mistake and that the animal specialist would never sell sick fish on purpose. I do remember that the employees were not informed of the sickness from the store manager, and the animal manager was sick and not working for a month.

Ich = flu

AUTHOR: Blahsblah2001 - Copley (U.S.A.)

Sorry to tell you, but the manager knew the fish had ich because... well, because ich is to fish what the common cold is to humans. It can pop up from seemingly nowhere under even the slightest of stressful conditions. It's teh most common of all fish diseases.

I keep my new fish quarantined for two weeks after I buy them for your exact reason, but I've still had outbreaks in my tank. If it ever happens again, shut off your filter and put in some rid-ich. I keep some on hand all the time and have since the first days I've had my tank. It goes away in a few days, if it's treated.
