It was a good day, my son got a great report card and I decided that it was time to get that pet we always wanted. I contacted them to see if they carried a specific breed, she advised me that they carry every breed imaginable. I said cool, lets go there. We decide to visit Shake a Paw in Toms River.
We arrive, walk in and to my amazement they were right they had every type you could imagine. My son ran around in awe and he picked out several but there was one, he was in the back of a small cage with two other puppies. Something about him made me stop and say this is the one. I felt bad for him because he was stuck with two big bullies!! Every time I tried to go near him the other brutts would knock him over.
So we picked him up and went in there special area where your kids can bond, it was perfect, he was perfect. My son was estatic, Mom hes the one I want him, I agreed. We spent the next half hour picking out our toys and beds and all his accessories. It was all good until the second day, I noticed he didnt want to eat,he seemed tired and he was trying to cough up something but it was stuck.So I did what any mom would do you make them comfortable and I went out and purchased every type of puppy product I could find. He pepped up and I thought he is gonna be fine.
Well I made an appointment for him to be checked by a vet and I was shocked to hear that he had an Upper Respitory Infection and Cunjunctivitis. He was placed on an Antibiotic and eye drops and for the next few days seemed better, still had a cough but better. Day 7 arrives. Morning is going good until I hear something that sounds like someone trying to catch their breathe. I come out of my room and there is the little baby puppies almost falling over trying to catch his breathand let me tell you when I say I was scared I was scrared. All that ran through my mind is how am I gonna explain to my seven year old that his puppy is gone, I cant, I WONT'!
Conclusion: My son is at school today and when he gets home I have to tell him that his best friend is in the hospital and might not make it. To me that's unacceptable! These people need to be monitored by the state and all animals that are adopted should be checked by a licensed vet one that has a heart and is willing to put his/her career on the line when it comes to saying UNFIT FOR SALE.
