I am writing this on behalf of my mother. She has medicare and is insured through AARP. She contacted AmMed Direct and was told that AmMed is in the network for AARP.
My mother ordered her medication and only received about half of what she ordered. Upon examining the bill, she discovered she was still charged the full amount. In contacting AmMed, they said there was a problem with the software.
Because of the shortage, my mother needed more medication a month later. AmMed would not fill the other half of the original order, nor apply a credit to the account because the software issue had not yet been resolved.
Under the impression that the issue would be resolved for the first order and she would receive reimbursement, she placed a second order. Overcharged a second time, she switched pharmacies. We are still waiting for either a reimbursement, or medication she was shorted.
To make matters worse, AARP has been less than helpful through this process. While I don't feel they are completely at fault in this situation, they have not tried to resolve the problem. My mother received three letters from AARP in one day.
Letter one said they would reimburse the amount overpaid. The second said she was denied reimbursement. The third was a denial for medication that she did not have on the original claim filed.
A month later came a letter that denied another item that was also not on the original claim.
Finally, AARP says they will no longer cover some of my mother's medication because she has reached her allotment. This is because AARP has a record of her receiving medication that AmMed Direct never sent.
While I hold AmMed directly responsible for the situation my mother is in now, AARP has a responsibility as the insurer to help resolve this situation, not make it worse. All we want is for AmMed to fulfill its obligations and ship my mother her medication, or reimburse her the $400 that she overpaid. After all, these companies are here to improve our lives, not stress it.

We tried calling the number that was posted on the rebuttal. The person at this extension had no idea what we were talking about and never even heard of this website. She was not able to even help.
