A-1 American Plumbing $78 to diagnos leak in tub, tech told wife $365 to seal with Silicone Chesapeake Virginia

While I (Husband father of 4) was out of town on business. My wife discovered a leak coming from the ceiling directly under our tub upstairs. She calls A-1 Amerian, and a technician shows up to diagnos the problem (cost $78) He tells her and me on the phone that he doesnt have to look in the wall, that he knows the problem is the beauty ring behind the on/off valve is loose and all he has to do is seal it, ($365) I tell him no thanks. I get home, and I cut a small hole in the wall opposite the tub valve and low and behold the valve is loose. I buy a plastic access plate for the hole I made ($17) and tighten the valve. Problem fixed for under $20, and approx 1 hour work. This guy kept telling me on the phone he had 30 yrs plus experience... goes to show you. I call the company and some lady who tells me she's a manager and that the guy was justified, basically told me that if he had done what I had, it would of cost over $1000. I tried to tell her that her tech did not even diagnos the problem correctly, but it was like I was talking to one of those operators from India... Terrible company steer way clear... BIG RIP-OFF
