I am enrolled in 2 classes in the New College Program where we meet 2x's every 2 weeks usually from 6:50-9:40. I needed to use the campus to study a few times for a couple of hours. They charge $250 for a parking pass that I would never be able to find parking in the color coded lots that pertain to my parking permit. I decided not to buy one and just park in the visitor parking. Visitor parking does not state that expired tags, (even if its a vehicle that was purchased and the tag was not removed) are not allowed to be present in the lot.
The visitor's lots were 40% empty. Recently this university just built a million dollar or more parking garage that is empty quite a bit of the time. They have 8 years to pay this off. I was advised by the police department that the person that deals with finance decisions is the person who brought up the idea of charging this violation at this level. I am in the process of protesting this ticket which may take time away from pay and possibly community service if they offer it. I am not sure what my options are at this point. I have decided that take my story to the internet to warn anyone thinking of coming here to get a place close to the campus walking distance, and make sure you bug the police department for escorts if its dark off campus to your car if you do not decide to buy a pass. I plan on using BBB for this complaint as well.
This university does not offer day passes or any other option than $250 to park in the green zone (they colors change yearly!) If you don't buy a permit than you have to park off campus. They will ticket after 7pm even though they say they don't. I have friends that have received tickets after that time.
Also, nowhere does it say when you pay for classes on EDWEB that you cannot park on campus if you choose to not buy a pass. I had to dig all around the police departments website to find what constitutes a visitor. If I am a student that doesn't mean I don't visit the campus for classes occaisonally. They didn't think about that when I talked to them on the phone.
