I saw a listing in Craigslist for a vacation rental for 810 Yarmouth Ct. in San Diego, Ca and I contacted the owner about the rental. She was very nice and told me the apartment was really nice with a great view of the bay and it was really clean. So I decided to rent the apartment for my husband and I. We need to move close to the VA hospital for my husband who is a disabled Veteran. Jennifer Prevost told me she would hold this place for us for 1 1/2 months with a deposit so I sent her $1800 for deposits.
We drove to San diego from Arizona which was a 7 hour drive fully intending on renting this apartment on going even though it was a monthly "vacation rental"
When we arrived we were appalled at what we saw.
There was trash everywhere outside and when we went up the stairs that were dangerous because the railing was broke and there was a big drop off the side of the steps. We also noticed that the "view of the bay" was really a view of the back of a hotel and there were cargo containers and trash everywhere on the side of this apartment. We went into the apartment and it was disgusting. There was dirt everywhere, and also roaches. The tile in the kitchen was cracked and dirty and the window sills were filled with dirt. The windows would not open up and they had no screens so it was very hot in there. there was no air conditioning either. This place was not fit for any human to stay in. Oh and did I mention that there was a huge gap under the front door for rodents to get in. It was so bad that my husband took video and pictures of the place. I called the landlord/owner and she said just "oh come on the place is clean" she said she was just in there that morning. I asked her if we could talk but she was gone, we never even met her she wouldn't see us, even though she had told me she would be there to greet us when we got there. We had friends who came over there to see the place and insisted we go stay with them that night. When my husband called the landlord all she said was that the place was clean and there was no reason for us to not rent the place. When she found out that my husband took pictures and video she said she would have a cleaning crew go in and clean the place but the place should of been cleaned before we got there and there were structural problems inside and out of the apartment. Honestly the place needs to be gutted it's that bad. Now Jennifer Prevost will not give us back our deposit and insists that we have a lease for 1 month and that we owe her money for that too. She was in breach of the lease by misrepresenting this "vacation rental."
All we wanted was to be close to the VA hospital in San Diego, Ca. but instead we are out $1800.
