I have had an account with dish network ever since VOOM went out of business. When I opened the account I leased two 811 receivers. Later Dish changed the method they use on HD programing and had to replace the 811's with VIP211's.
A couple of years later I purchased a VIP211K from a company in Florida. I had it added to my account along with the two VIP211's that I lease from them. At that time my account showed that I leased two VIP211's and owned one VIP211K. I know that they showed it that way on the account for at least a year or more.
On December 26,2011 I checked my account on line to see what I am being billed for and what equipment they show that I have. They now show to own ALL THREE of the receivers and I lease all of them.
I called to have them correct that. I was told that they show to own all of them and if I wanted it changed, I would have to produce a receipt where I purchased it. I told them that it was purchased in January 2009 from a company in Florida, I gave them the name and town of the company I purchased it from and said it had been nearly three years ago and I had no idea where the receipt would be after all that time. But if they would just LOOK AT THEIR OWN RECORDS they would show that I leased two VIP211's, But Did Not Lease A VIP211K. They have refused to do that. Then I said they would need to show something to prove I had leased it from them. I was then told that they don't always keep those records and it was up to me to prove them wrong.
(I LOVE GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE) (We are the big guys and you are the little guy and if we want your property we will just take it.) bigtex

Tex... Hopefully you read this in time. DO NOT ever provide a PIN to anyone. Giving someone a PIN is like giving someone your CC and then giving them the security code that is on the back of the card as well.
Dish Network is known for this kind of BS.... Have them prove that you did in fact lease this receiver from them... Have them go through their paperwork and produce a receipt or any kind of shipping information on the receiver. Also deduct any lease charge on the receiver from your bill until they prove it.
File a fraud complaint with your State Attorney office to have them investigate the claim and have them force Dish Network to produce any documentation that you leased this equipment from them. They are required to keep their receipts especially if they are going to try to bill you.

After filing this report I was contacted by Mr Mark Haakenson from Dish Network. He told me that he would check into it and get back to me. The next response I received from him was on a Wednesday. He said that he would be away over the weekend and would contact early the next week.
The next time I heard from him was the Next Friday. He advised me that he was unable to get it changed. And since I had also filed a complaint with the BBB, that agent would be handling it from now own.
I had already heard from that Department. I was advised that they did not have the authority to change or correct anything.
I am still in the same shape as before. They took it, and there does not seem to be a whole lot I can do about it.
I am so mad that I am considering filing a lawsuit against them. Some one needs to stand up to them.
It may as well be me.

Did you pay cash for the receiver? Check?? Credit card??? If you paid via cash I guess you are screwed unless you can go back to the dealer and ask them if they still have a record of the sale. If it was check you should be able to get back with your bank and see what type of records they have. Credit card the same thing. Check your transaction and payments for the credit card.
Did you ever contact the State Attorney?
