    Corporate Advocacy Program
My son needed help with drug abuse and I contacted Narconon of Southern California because their advertisement on the Internet caught my eye. After speaking to a counselor, Nic Behner, from Narconon, I felt comfortable with him and the program sounded very good. However, when my son was to go to Narconon, he didn't so I asked Nic for his advice.

He told me to contact an interventionist group from Chicago, who were the best in the country.

In the meantime, Nic said I had to give Narconon $15,500 to hold a spot for my son at the Nevada facility, and I was sent an e-mail from Christopher Bauge, Admissions Director, that I would have my $15,500 returned within one month if my son did not attend their program.

In the meantime, I spent over $5,000 to have one male interventionist come to Philadelphia to help. He spent over two days here with no success. In fact, this person did not even see my son, just talked to him through a door and made no real attempt.

Now I have been trying desperately to get my refund of $15,500 and have spent so much time doing this. Nic has pushed me onto June Rosenberry who keeps telling me I'm on the list to be paid, but Finance and Treasury do not know when.

Then she told me to contact their in-house lawer, Bruce Haddrill and he told me Narconon does not have any money now. They are bringing in more "counselors" to try to get more clients!

They never advertise that they are scientologists, but if they truly do believe this, they would never hurt families like this. Scientologists are supposed to be honest and do the "right" thing, not rip-off people, especially families that are trying to get help for their loved ones.

Narconon of Southern California

AUTHOR: Linda - Boca Raton (U.S.A.)

I have received my full refund of $15,500 from Narconon and was called by the executive director from Narconon to apologize for this delay and any misunderstanding. I do believe the program has done good for many people who have attended and completed the program. We all need to focus on the recovery of our loved ones and to try to prevent any misunderstanding in the future.

Glad you got your money back but...

AUTHOR: Daniel_l - Grass Valley (U.S.A.)

Dear Linda or Arlene or whichever name you go by,
I'm glad you got your money back because you were ripped off by Narconon like so many others have been, myself included. But it seems like you were made to write that update as part of your settlement. It sounds a bit like the reply of the other Linda aka Middle-aged mom, Barrington, Illinois. Both updates minimize all the hell that Narconon put you both through. Since Narconon has caused alot of upset for alot of people and their loved ones, since I know they make you sign a gag agreement once you accept the money, since your story stands and stays on the internet despite your update I say that even if you you can't say any of this now because of that gag, I can.

There were no misunderstanding in my situation with Narconon. Only the lies they told and truth that came out after my fiancee paid out our hard earned savings and money from her credit cards. Narconon has still not repaid her and I was only there 4 days. Your update gives me some hope. Thank you.

Hi Daniel...

Your assumption is probably right on the money (no pun intended).

NarCONon is known for dragging it's feet on refund issues because of it's ties to Scientology. Requests for any refunds have to be made "uplines" to the CoS finance division. As you're likely aware, Scientology hates losing money.

However, with the right pressure, Narconon will "make a very rare exception" (they say) and refund some money, usually for the balance of the time in the program not taken. This usually comes about when things like lawyers or government intervention are mentioned.

Whoever settles with a Narconon is usually made to sign an agreement that stipulates that as part of the settlement, the person has to go to wherever they bad mouthed the facility, including ROR (what, you don't think they watch this place?? LOL!), submit a retraction and keep their mouths shut about Narconon and Scientology forever thereafter. Literally. they will sue around $10k for each utterance of the name Narconon or Scientology.

No, I am not kidding.

Also, as part of the "settlement", in NDA fashion, people are told what they can and cannot say, how to say it and how much detail they can (not) include. We'll likely never hear from Linda (or whoever) again, except to repeat herself.
