I purchased and a set of Wagner Thermoquiet Brake Pads from my mechanic which he installed for me. I made the decision to purchase these specific pads as Wagner had an active rebate promotion going on. He provided me with a receipt and the rebate form. I submitted the online rebate information and mailed the documents. I received a confirmation email that the rebate had been submitted.

I never did receive the rebate from the manufacturer.  When I checked the tracking number 521617798 using www.wagnertqrebate.com I find a note that my rebate claim was invalid because “This rebate is only eligible to Canadian residents. Missing Original Receipt.”  I contacted Wagner about the issue listed as I am indeed a Canadian resident and I submitted the paperwork that my mechanic provided me.

The response from Wagner Rebates:

“… please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you but we will not be able to process your rebate because the promotion is no longer available in our system. This offer was available for purchases made between 02/24/2012 through 04/30/2012. I am sorry but at this point there is no updates or changes we can do to your record.”

I find it troubling that Wagner made no effort to contact me about the issue.  It appears that it is in their best interest to not honor rebate claims and just hope that their customers forget.  I am curious if others have had similar experiences.  Is this simply a technique for hooking customers, then looking for fine print or bogus loop-holes to deny the rebate claims? 

While the amounts represented in this complaint are under $100, they still represent what we believe to be poor business practices that I believe should be public knowledge.  At this point, I can only assume that Wager and their parent organization Federal-Mogul have no interest in honoring the rebate or resolving this issue and maintaining their good names.  I hope that this experience serves as a warning for future customers.  I caution all to be extremely careful with the Wagner Rebate process and to think twice about purchasing Wager or Federal-Mogul products.

I would like to report that I received a resolution email today.  The company acted quickly to resolve the issue and has restored my faith in the company.  I would like to share the following email:

"Please accept my apologies for all the inconvenience about the status of your rebate submission. I assure you that we appreciate your preference and loyalty to our high quality products. 

You are a valued customer to our company XXXXXXXXXXXX. Yesterday, after I replied to your original e-mail inquiry, I forwarded your rebate information to upper management to be reviewed. Today, we got a positive answer to your first e-mail.

I am glad to inform you that your rebate will be process. A new record was created for you since the original one is no longer available in  our system. You are going to receive a $40.00 CND check that will be mailed toXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX and it is going to be received between 7 to 10 business days. Be advised your check will be issued in the form of a postcard

Please disregard your old tracking number because it will show your rebate status at invalid because it no longer can be modified. If you can check the status of your rebate feel free to visit www.wagnertqrebate.com and click on the "Track Your Rebate" link and use your new tracking number 575250701.
