My mom got dooped by these guys, and being an industry
progammer from San Francisco, I was pretty pissed at this scam these companies
are running. Especially after the ridiculous Reputation.com radio ads on all
the time. So being a good citizen, I felt obligated to give you the truth, and
hopefully get my moms money back.
You can do everything yourself, easily. There is
no magical software or hack these companies have. The only thing you can do is
1) Sign up for websites, like Twitter, Tumblr and Wordpress for example. Dozens
of them. 2) Put content on them. Such as, a biography about you or something
that interests you.
Bad news..a lot negative websites can't be moved
from page 1 to page 2. If its on page 1, you have a half-half shot. You can
then pay a company like profiledefenders.com to figure out if its possible for
you. If they move it, great, but if they don't, then you are out $3000. So, why
not test it yourself?
(If you're a big shot and have the $$$, have your PA do it.
You will have better results anyways because of its legitimiacy. Google picks
up on these SEO/Reputation Management companies shaningans. )
These scam of companies will sign you up for
websites that anyone can sign up to for free. You just have to hope that Google
places some of them on the top of page 1. Find out for yourself how much
work is required by signing up for a dozen or two. This way you will be
educated on how many websites is required, and don't get ripped off with a huge
quote for easy work. Or if you have the time, you can do it yourself an hour a
week or so.

Don't sign up for more than 20 websites a week.
Google will get pissed.
