I was consolidating some of my credit cards. I was told that my balance of $267.88 had gone thru with my transfer to Circuit City or 1st. North
American National (also Chase). I verified that my other two transfers had been cleared, which they had, so I did not make a payment to Circuit City. I assumed this transfer was cleared also. My MISTAKE!
Capital One was used to consolidate three debts. I was notified by Capital One that my transfers were cleared thru them.

I just received notice that 1st. North American declined my transfer to pay off the balance of $267.88. They returned the payment to Capital One. The original purchase was made with a 15 month no interest fee. I bought a computer thru Circuit City located in Springfield Oregon. The no interest ended this month, so I figured I would go ahead and pay it off rather than worry about it. I had never been late in the 15 months.

Well, since I was late NOW and DEFAULTED on my payment (due to their declining my balance payoff) I was charged a $35.00 late fee. Since this was a promotional charge 1st. North American charged me $258.57 in what was referred to as ACCUMULATED FINANCE CHARGE.

Remember now that my balance had only been $ 267.88. Now I owe $561.45 and a minimum monthly payment of $52.00.

I am enraged as you can well imagine. At first I thought it was a mistake, but after seeing these other complaints I realize this is not an error and by reading the Terms I guess 1st. North American can get by with this rip off tactic. It is so confusing and the print is so small I am still not clear on the actual terms and conditions.

As soon as I am done filing my complaint here I plan on sending a copy to our State Representative Peter DeFazio. He has always represented the people
who voted for him. He and his office staff helped me resolve a previous issue that I had trouble with involving phone charges. I have no doubt that I would not have resolved the problem on my own.
Thankyou...

Ann
