My wife and I have had several autos financed with 5/3 (all have been payed off, and on time) we have a mortgage financed with this bank as well.  We have auto debits set up to pay our monthly bills on time and always more that the minimum that's due.  We had a credit card that was attached to our main checking account for overdraft protection with a limit of 6000.00 If and we we used that line of credit we always paid it off.  Recently we had to depend it it more and more due to the economy and we ran the limit on the card.  After two months of the card being maxed out and making the payments as due, we paid 4000.00 on the card and got the balance to less than 2000.00 The other day my wife was at the grocery and attempted to use the card for her purchaseand got declined! When my wife called the bank, she was told that our account was revied the 1st of June and our limit was decreased to 1900.00...There was no phone call, no email, no explanation what so ever!  When my wife asked the CSR, the bank said 'Well if we told you that we were going to lower your limit, you would run right out and charge up the card again!' You stay Classy Fifth Third...thank you for helping me decide to bank with Chase....

Chase Credit Cards

AUTHOR: unknown - (U.S.A.)

To all who wrote in telling me that I maxed the card, you did not read carefully enough..I wrote that the 25,000.00 card was paid off and with a zero balance. And the zero balance stayed that way for 3 months when I got the letter saying that they lowed my limit from 25,000.00 to 900.00..I took the 600.00 off the card when the limit was 25,000.00..READ MYLIPS ALL. THE CARD WAS EMPY , ZIP, NO BALANCE WHAT SO EVER..Then they lowered the limit when I took 600.00 off the card, which made my balance 600.00 on a 25,000.00 card.. Next time reread if you don't understand ..And don't judge those, cause maybe one day it could happen to you..I have been in credit cards and banking for over 15 years ..

I still stand my ground with Chase, they are the worse ever and just think they were one of the banks that took the bailout..

Chase debit card

AUTHOR: MovingForward - (United States of America)

To respond to the poster that does not like the Chase debit card annual fee of $25: At first I didn't like it either - after all, who ever heard of an annual fee for a debit card???

But, I have since discovered that just using the debit card on my regular bills (phone/fuel etc), I get cash back amounting to apprx $20 every 30 to 60 days. That is not a bad return on a $25 annual fee. For me, this card is worth it. The trick is to make sure you don't spend funds on things you would not normally buy :)

As to the OP's original post, credit issuers are looking for any transaction that indicates you may be headed toward financial difficulty. It doesn't matter if it's 5/3rd or Chase or Wells or other cc's. If you normally do not run your balances to the limit and then you suddendly max out - the cc issuer notices a change in your pattern. The minute you paid down the line to $2000 they reduced your CL so you could not access the funds again. They say its to "reduce their exposure" to potential delinquencies.  They are quick these days to close or reduce lines for all kinds of reasons, for example, inactive accounts, or if they think they can't make money off you! The real problem with this is it changes your credit utilization and can make your score drop, even though your balances remain the same.

Far be it for me to take sides, but any bank would take that action if you max out your credit card, even for a few months. Do you honestly think that if you maxxed a Chase card out, Chase wouldn't have done this, too?

Chase is even worse

AUTHOR: unknown - (U.S.A.)

If you think the bank chased you over to Chase Bank, think again. As a $25,000.00 credit limit card holder with Chase, I closed my account with them and paid it off..I was off work last year for major surgery to rebuild my right shoulder, and my employer deceided to take forever to call me back to work even after the dr. said I can go back..So with no money to pay bills , I borrowed $600.00 off the card..Now I had no balance since I paid $6000.00 off in full in May of 2009..So for 3 months I had no balance on my Chase card.. So now after taking off 600.00 to pay my rent, 3 months later I get a letter from Chase that they lowered my credit limit from $25,000.00 down to $900.00.. Mind you I paid off the card completly.. So I called them to find out why the limit was lowerd and was told by some idiot in India that it was my credit burea..So I said BS to them.. with a credit score of almost 800 I knew that was not the case.. I said a Ford dealership just let me buy the year before a new convertiable Mustang.. He tried to argue that my credit bureau is bad.. So sitting there looking at it myself, I told them to stick the credit card where the sun don't shine and close my account.. It was that they did not like me taking money off my card..plain and simple. My daughter also closed her account with them cause they racked up her interest from 9% to 27%..She buys and pays off the card every month..So Chase was not making any money off her.. and at 27% they never will either..

Her fiance also closed his account with Chase as her booked a cruise and put it on his Chase credit card and they racked up his minimum due thru the roof..and they offered to increase his card limit.. Yea of couse, ya idiots..Then had the guts to raise his APR to the same 27%.. This guy has a 152,000.00 a year job, owns his own home, drives a huge Ford truck and pays off things as when he gets the bills..  So CHASE is this how you treat your good people who pays on their accounts and even pays them off?

Then they actually had the guts to call me about a survey on how they are doing.. YEA RIGHT!!!!!!  They charged my checking account 25.00 for alousy debit card that I did not want either one..So Chase stick your cards, your checking accounts, loans and anything else you can screw the public with..I'LL STAY WITH 5/3 ANY DAY..
