On Saturday, 8 July 2006 I went to 7-Eleven located at 11590 4 St N in St. Petersburg to purchase gas. As this 7-Eleven changed over to a prepay for gas policy a while ago I go inside to the cashier to prepay for my gas.

While I was waiting in line I noticed that there was a gentleman being waited on. This gentleman was treated a lot more friendlier. When it was my turn to approach the cashier I requested a prepay for gas.

After the transaction was completed the clerk turned to me and surly told me to have a good day sir. I then politely and professionally asked the clerk why I was surly called sir when the gentleman ahead of me was not treated with the same respect. The clerk got on the defensive and angrily told me that it is her policy to call every man sir.

At that point I got very aggravated at her response and I told her I did not want to hear it anymore. After that the clerk got more angrier at me; I was extremely upset as I went back to my car to pump my gas and I left. Later that evening I wrote a formal complaint to 7-Eleven via their web site explaining what happened.

Fast forward to Monday evening, 10 July 2006. I went to the same 7-Eleven store to pick up a sandwich and bring it back home. After I paid for my sandwich I was approached by Kage, who is a sales associate. Kage angrily escorted me out of the store and told me that I was accused of verbally abusing one of his employees.

Yes I was angry and upset at one of his employees for the way I was treated but in no way I did not instigate this commotion in the very first place as I asked this employee why I was treated differently than the customer ahead of me. Kage went on to claim that it was documented and it was on the video tape and apparently Kage interpreted it that way when he saw the tape. Even though I filed a complaint with 7-Eleven on the web site, Kage never gave me an opportunity to explain my side of the story and threateningly told me to shut my mouth.

Kage went on to tell me that I was permanently barred from coming back to this 7-Eleven and that if I were to show up ever again he would call the police and have me forcibly removed from the premises and arrested for trespassing. Kage went on to further threaten and additionally humiliate me by pointing his finger right at my nose and at that point I feared for my personal safety as I had a feeling that Kage was going to take a swing at me.

I told Kage that if he threatens me with the police I will be in contact with my attorney. As I live across the street from this 7-Eleven I went home extremely upset and I could not hold my tears back as I called my sister to explain what happened.

You should know that this is also not the first and only time I have had concerns regarding Kage's behavior towards me as a customer. On a few occasions I have noticed Kage getting very aggressive with me by pointing his finger at me in a threatening manner, especially when he opens a register. I have been friendly with Kage despite his mediocre behavior until now.

Now that I cannot use this 7-Eleven anymore for anything, I have to drive a distance to other places for gas, food and other items. I appreciate the convenience of having this 7-Eleven close by where I live especially if I am doing something very late. Now every time I have to drive by this 7-Eleven (we only have one road that leads into my community) I get very scared and I break into a sweat. I have used to do some walking around my complex but now I am very scared to on the public sidewalk that abuts 7-Eleven or even across the street.

Kage has placed me in constant fear of my personal freedom and safety, whether I have permission or not to come back to the 7-Eleven store as well as potentially off the 7-Eleven premises. It appears that the only way I can truly put this incident behind me is to sell my condo and move elsewhere out of the immediate area of this 7-Eleven store.

To sum everything up, I was permanently barred from 7-Eleven on 11590 4 St N in St. Petersburg because 1) I stood up for my personal dignity, 2) I stood up to be treated with equal respect, and 3) I stood up for my rights as a customer. I do not mind being called sir as it is a respectful term of addressing a man and that's how we were raised; however, I cannot condone nor tolerate being addressed sir in a surly, aggressive or otherwise disrespectful way or fashion. Moreover, I was the victim of two 7-Eleven sales associates and management who stood up for their employees rather than listen to my concerns, who had aggression against me in their minds and was looking for one little minor incident as an excuse to have me permanently barred from the store.

My sister spoke with Tom, the manager of the 7-Eleven on 11590 4 St N, about this incident in order to achieve an amicable resolution. Instead of coming to agreement to resolve this issue, Tom concluded that I was to be excluded from the store, nothing more than a rubber stamp of Kage's decision.

At where I work I took a class not too long ago in diversity training and the class was called Unique Like You; in the class we were instructed how to treat customers in a dignified, yet respectful way. A part of my duties involve customer service and we have to treat customers in a friendly yet respectful way as I work for a governmental agency rather than private enterprise.

Comparing to the experience I received at other 7-Eleven stores in the St. Petersburg area, if 7-Eleven (and this particular store at 11590 4 St N in St. Petersburg) wants to remain in business, I believe 7-Eleven needs to be better trained on handling customer complaints and being on friendlier terms when it comes to dealing with the public.

Judging from what I experienced at 7-Eleven it is apparent that this 7-Eleven store in particular preaches poor customer service tactics to its employees and 7-Eleven employees are instructed by management to use threats and intimidation such as exclusion from a 7-Eleven store and calling the police when dealing with customer complaints. Moreover, I cannot condone a 7-Eleven sales associate who almost became physically abusive with me while threatening and humiliating me in front of several other customers and a 7-Eleven manager who rather than take the time to investigate this matter stands up for their employees and make deceitful statements to my sister who was attempting to rectify this issue for me as justification for my exclusion from the 7-Eleven store.

I do not know what my options are at this point besides contacting an attorney. But one thing is for sure and that is I did not instigate this incident in the first place I professionally and politely asked the clerk why and it is the clerk that got on the defensive which got me angry and upset in the first place. It is proved on the surveillance tape that I did get angry and upset but I did not get angry and upset on my own free will and accord instead, the surveillance tape shows how the customer before me was treated on better terms and how I was treated when I asked in a professional manner.

My advice for those people that live in or drive by the immediate area of the 7-Eleven store on 11590 4 St N: There are other convenience stores including 7-Eleven stores in the immediate area that want your business, but it is the 7-Eleven store on 11590 4 St N that apparently does not care about your patronage.

Please be careful if you stop there!

To Ashley of Springfield USA:  You need to be very careful about writing the fact that I need a "psychological evaluation" or "mental help" - such statements like that can get you sued for libel.

I will say this and I will say this again:  It was the clerk's discriminatory behavior that started this, not me.

You got in to it with a clerk at a gas station.

You got banned.

Big deal.

Its not as if the manager is stalking you in an attempt to make your life miserable. He couldn't care less. If you are having anxiety issues over this almost 3 years later, you need psychological help. Go to a therapist and get on with your life.

Why bother to update a report that is 2 1/2 years old? The only significant difference I see is that in your update, you have no mention of the clerk referring to you as "Sir" in a "burly tone" of voice.

You really need to get over this and move on with your life.

Revised complaint re 7-Eleven

AUTHOR: Edward - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 02, 2009

The following is a revised copy of my original Rip-Off Report that I filed against the 7-Eleven store at 11590 4 St N in St. Petersburg. Back when I wrote the original complaint I was very upset at the treatment I received back in July 2006 but I have went back recently and revised this report. This is meant to replace the original report on 7-Eleven that was written earlier.

After the transaction with the gentleman ahead of me was completed the clerk turned to me and I was treated discourteously for no reason despite my being friendly and professional-like. I asked - politely and professionally - the clerk why she was treating me in a discourteous manner when she treated the gentleman ahead of me more friendly. Instead, the clerk got on the defensive and yelled at me for no reason. At that point the clerk made me mad and I told her I did not want to hear it anymore.

There are plenty of ways to interpret a surveillance tape. That surveillance tape will prove that the store clerk on duty (on Saturday afternoon, 8 July 2006) treated me discourteously than the gentleman ahead of me. Let me assure you that I have never - in any way - instigated any commotion in the very first place.

What kind of verbal abuse? It was the store clerk that instigated the verbal abuse in the first place; I did not in any way instigate any verbal abuse whatsoever.

Kage went on to tell me that I was permanently barred from coming back to this 7-Eleven and that if I were to show up ever again he would have me forcibly removed. Kage went on to further threaten and additionally humiliate me by pointing his finger right at my nose and at that point I feared for my personal safety as I felt that Kage was going to take a swing at me. I told Kage that if he threatens me in any way whatsoever I will be in contact with my attorney. As I live across the street from this 7-Eleven I went home extremely upset and I could not hold my tears back as I called my sister to explain what happened.

This is also not the first and only time I have had concerns regarding Kage's behavior towards me. On several occasions I have noticed Kage getting very aggressive with me by pointing his finger at me in a threatening manner, especially when he opens a register. I have been friendly with Kage despite his unprofessional and discourteous behavior until now.

Now that I cannot use this 7-Eleven anymore for anything, I have to drive a distance to other places for gas, food and other items. I appreciate the convenience of having this 7-Eleven close by where I live especially if I am doing something very late. I have used to do some walking around my complex but now I am afraid to on the public sidewalk that abuts 7-Eleven or even across the street. Kage has placed me in constant fear of my personal freedom and safety, whether I have permission or not to come back to the 7-Eleven store as well as potentially off the 7-Eleven premises. Moreover, I have noticed that for about two years since the incident Kage has observed me coming out of my complex right from the window where the Lotto machine is at.

It appears that the only way I can truly put this incident behind me is to sell my condo and move elsewhere out of the immediate area of this 7-Eleven store. I feel that I was not welcomed in the immediate surrounding area (excluding the condo complex proper) back when I purchased my condo in 2001.

To sum everything up, I was permanently barred from 7-Eleven on 11590 4 St N in St. Petersburg because:

1) I stood up for my personal dignity,
2) I stood up to be treated with equal respect, and
3) I stood up for my rights as a customer.

I was the victim of two 7-Eleven sales associates and management who stood up for their employees rather than listen to my concerns, who had aggression against me in their minds and was looking for one little minor incident as an excuse to have me permanently barred from the store.

My sister spoke with Tom, the manager of the 7-Eleven on 11590 4 St N, about this incident and to resolve the issue at hand. My sister and I wanted to review the tape but Tom refused to because of company policy. Tom went ahead and reviewed the tape along with a higher-up from 7-Eleven (apparently someone from a district office level) and concluded that I was to be excluded from the store, nothing more than a rubber stamp of Kage's decision.

My blood pressure has spiked since this incident, especially when the anniversary of this incident rolls around. To this day, Kage's threatening and abusive words resonate affecting my way of life. If it is someone who has an aggressive behavior issue, it is clearly Kage as he demonstrated by raising his voice and threateningly pointing his finger at me, even before this incident happened as I described earlier.

Furthermore, I believe my reputation, character and goodwill may have been harmed. As I stated earlier, my sister spoke with Tom in an attempt to resolve this situation. Instead, Tom makes comments to my sister which are very false in character and my sister and I discussed this in length afterward. To add insult to injury, there is a so-called incident report done by 7-Eleven which I believe contains nothing more than falsehood than fact. In fact, I believe the sales clerk was somehow coached to make a false incident report.

On the other hand, if Tom can make damaging comments about my character, reputation and goodwill to my sister when she attempted to resolve this issue, I believe Tom is making the same comments about me to everyone else. What I can say is that I will not have someone such as a 7-Eleven store manager be making damaging comments regarding my reputation.

I do not know what my options are at this point besides contacting an attorney. But one thing is for sure and that is I did not instigate this incident in the first place I professionally and politely asked the clerk why I was being treated differently and it is the clerk that very belligerent with me in the very first place. After all, there are other stores in this immediate area of the Gandy area of St. Petersburg that value, want and need your business. But not 7-Eleven at this particular location. Please be careful if you stop there!

And one more thing: Constructive comments are welcome; however, I will not tolerate my report being used as a "public urinal" to make negative or degrading comments against me, as someone from Stuarts Draft, VA has done when he replied to my original report. This is a true report, and I would have never filed a report if the incident did not happen.

Edward.......you need to do some serious reflecting on what happened. It wasnt enough that you were addressed as "sir"....nope....apparently you deserve more or better or "something". You seem to think you can dictate the tone of voice someone uses or the infletion in their voice....or perhaps the look on the clerks face.

As far as fearing for your life? WHATEVER......you're looking for an easy law suit......a quick buck at someone elses expense. I hope to heaven this place doesnt give it to you.

Counter Rebuttal to Destructo's Comments

AUTHOR: Edward - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 22, 2008

Destructo,

Perhaps you did not read the original report all the way through. Let me make some clarifications as to your comments.

1. I did NOT in any way instigate this commotion in the very first place. The gentleman ahead of me was treated in a nicer manner and I was the one that was given the cold shoulder.

2. I do not object to being ordinarily addressed "sir" as it is a proper form of address to a man. However, I vehemently object to its use in an discriminatory or aggressive manner.

3. The way this incident was handled did indeed cross the line. Florida's assault and battery laws make it quite easy for a victim to press charges. In fact, all the proof you need to press assault charges in Florida is the fact that someone threatened you and placed a fear in you that you were about to get hurt. This would include, among other things, pointing a finger at someone and someone takes it as a threat. With you living in Virginia, perhaps you do not understand Florida's assault and battery laws quite clear.

4. Your statement that I need mental help is totally slanderous and false. You should be very careful coming to quick judgments before you post statements like what you have done.

So, I urge you, Destructo, to carefully re-read this report again and again. If you care to leave any comments (after reading this report), please feel free to do so but you should be careful before you come to quick judgments and make statements such as "mental problem" to anyone. After all, this original report and update are indeed true and if it did not happen, I would not file a report here at RipOffReport.com in the very first place. Mark my word.

And you are right, there are rude people out there such as Kage. But you do not have to put up with it. After all, it's your money that you spend.

It's Time

AUTHOR: Destructo - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 22, 2008

Edward, it's time to grow up.

You were addressed as "sir", and you took offense. You're stating that being "barred" from this 7-11 has changed your life, which is completely absurd. It's time to grow up, and realize that you made the situation worse. You abused one of the employees, and were asked to leave the store. It's your own fault. There is no reason to feel threatened for your life, because Kage isn't trying to hunt you down and hurt you. This is an easy lawsuit, and you're looking for one simple thing, money. If you feel you have to move because you got into a dispute with a 7-11 associate, you obviously have more problems than that, and may need mental help.

People are mean and rude, and the only advice I can give is, "Welcome to the real world."

7-Eleven 11590 4 St N St Petersburg FL Customer Mistreatment Update

AUTHOR: Edward - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 21, 2008

It has been over a year and a half since the incident with the 7-Eleven store on 11590 4th Street North in St. Petersburg, Florida that occurred on 10 July 2006. What follows is an update as to what transpired over a year and a half since the incident.

Since this incident and it has been ongoing to this day, every time I drive out of my condominium complex, especially in the evenings, I see Kage the sales associate who is responsible for this incident standing inside the store at the money order and Lotto machine in an intimidating manner like he is watching me come out of where I live. It has gotten to the point that I can no longer withstand Kages intimidating behavior every time I drive out of where I live. Lately this has eased up a little but who knows?

Moreover, I believe my reputation, character and goodwill in the far northeast area of St. Petersburg may have been harmed. According to the original report, my sister spoke with Tom (the manager of the 7-Eleven store) in an attempt to resolve this situation. Instead, Tom makes comments to my sister which are very false in character and my sister and I discussed this in length afterward. To add insult to injury, there is a so-called incident report done by 7-Eleven which I believe contains nothing more than falsehood than fact.

There are plenty of ways to interpret a surveillance tape. That surveillance tape will prove that I was upset by the actions of the store clerk on duty on Saturday afternoon, 8 July 2006, when I stopped to get gas. I have never in any way instigated any commotion in the very first place as was originally reported. Apparently the clerk on duty was coached somehow by Kage to falsify the so-called incident report and the tape was interpreted to shift the blame on me two things which led to my being wrongly barred from this 7-Eleven store for life.

For a while my blood pressure spiked as the one year anniversary of this incident came and went. However, a Labor Day weekend vacation in 2007 seemed to cool things for some time.

To this day, Kages threatening and abusive words resonate affecting my way of life. If it is someone who has an aggressive behavior issue, it is clearly Kage as he demonstrated this kind of act by raising his voice and threateningly pointing his finger at me, even before this incident happened as I described in the original report.

On the other hand, if Tom can make damaging comments about my character, reputation and goodwill to my sister when she attempted to resolve this issue, I believe Tom is making the same comments about me to everyone else. In addition to my twenty years of meritorious service to a local government who cares about me, I have been active in the community including serving on my condominiums board of directors among other things. What I can say is that I will not have someone such as a 7-Eleven store manager be making damaging comments regarding my reputation.

As I said in my original report, there are other convenience stores within the Gandy area of St. Petersburg that want your business. But not 7-Eleven on 11590 4 St N. Think twice before stopping there!
