99 Cents Only Store Overcharging your shopped items, Count every items before you go out of the store Los Angeles California

I shopped at 99 Cents Only for the very first time yesterday.  I agree that their pricing is sneaky and fraudulent.  If their name says 99 Cents ONLY, the price should not be 99.999 cents, especially if they round up to a dollar.  My biggest gripe with this place is that they should at least display the accurate prices on the shelves.  Then at least I would have know what to expect at the register.  I won't shop here again.  I don't really care about the 10 extra cents that I wasn't expecting, because I can afford it.  I don't like how they mislead the customers by posting fraudulent price tags.  Isn't there laws against not honoring the posted price? 

are you seriously complaining about a fraction of a penny? after all these years this company has been around without a price increase, no inflation in 25 years, they finally make a small increase 99/100 of a cent...and you have the odacity to complain about it, go to other stores where prices are soaring compared to last year, 99/100 of a cent in 25 years is dam good. and another thing the fact that they're called 99 cents only stores is not "false advertising" it's the name of the store, when you go to Food-for-Less do you actually think you're getting your food for less than every other store? are they too false advertising ? Taco bell doesn't have a bell last time i checked, false advertising ? Pizza Hut is not really a hut, false advertising ? Best buy, i found the same tv cheaper at walmart, can i sue best buy for false advertising, as they did not provide the best buy, false advertising?...see how ridiculous this concept is ? let's hope you get it together and appreciate a little more the great deals 99 cents only stores provides, you know you get a better deal there, stop penny pinching, you'd spend alot more elswhere. -

The .99 store advertised last year that the price was going to go up and decided to raise the price from 0.9900 to 0.9999 so that the store would still essentialy be a .99 cent store and they would not have to change all their signs.

This was the first price in crease in 25 Years for them.

But I hear you on the Price Checking. I have Found some stores over charging me a Total of 20-30 bucks on a single order when sale prices didnt apply correctly.

I never really thought about overlooking my receipts, but I will from now on, now that you mention it. In fact I will look today. I went shopping there 2 days ago myself. Only I have a different problem with them. I got in an argument with one of the cashiers about their advertisement of being a 99 cent "Only" store. With all the Ads, the sign outside their store, the signs inside the store all say it's a 99 cents "only" store, yet over the intercom and at the cashier register, they say it's 99.9 cents. In the US dollars, there is no such thing as 99.9 cents. The scanner charges you each item $1.00. I bought 80 items. I was ripped off 80 cents. Pennies add up in my thoughts. That 80 cents could have collected interest in my bank account, went toward my food or gas, etc. It makes a difference. When I mentioned it to the clerk, I asked why does the sign outside say it's a 99 cents "only" store, yet you are charging me $1.00 for each item. His response was quick and unjustified. he said it was changed by corporate. I said that it was false advertisement and he disagreed. he said 'No it's 99.9 cents which makes it 1 dollar. I said indeed according to the employees and the store, but it says 99 cents "only" outside the store on the neon sign. His response was "we could argue all day but it's 99.9 cents". I ended the discussion with. "That's false advertisement. I feel that change should be made when the change takes effect like changing the signs and their advertisements first, before charging people the $1.00 for each item. So technically America is getting ripped off by 1 cent per item. Depending how often you shop there, the pennies add up.
Second, I would like to add that some of their products aren't bargains at all. they are getting quite cheap these days. If they can't afford to sell it, they should not offer it rather than ripping us off more than they already are.
For example: They only sell you a 4 pack (they took away 2 sodas away from the 6 pack of sodas) for a "$1.00. If you do the math, you aren't saving anything at all. I could buy a 12 pack of those sodas (generic/Shasta) at my local grocery outlet for 2.50. if you add that each can is .25 ( at the 99 cents store) that adds up to $3.00 for a 12 pack. I would save more by buying my sodas at the outlet instead. The average sale price for those sodas are equal at most major retailers.
The eggs have been cut off by the store to a 6 pack. They charge you $1.00 for the 6 pack of eggs when I can get a dozen at Walmart for 1.83. I would save .17 a dozen by shopping at walmart. Walmart often has a sale on those eggs that bring it down an additional .40.
The milk sells only by the plastic pint only for ($1.00), 2 of those would equal to a $2.00 1/2 gallon of milk. I can get a whole Gallon at wal-Greens for $2.19. if i buy a gallon at the 99 cent store, i would lose $2.00 form my pocket. Most Gallons of milk on anverage sales are 2 for 3.89 like at Save-mart or walmart (Bayview brand). I could save even more if i bought 2 gallons of milk from the sale prices at save Mart. Then i would lose $4.00 from the 99 cent store if i bought the equal amount from there. That $4.00 can be spent on more important things like bills, food, or gas as well.
Some of their canned foods like vegetables, beans, chili, and canned dinners, mostly go for a dollar, but i can 2 cans for the same price at my local outlet.
I would never buy the tortillas or the day old bread from the .99 stores because I have gotten molded bread and tortillas more than twice in a lifetime of shopping there. i choose not to get ripped off further.
I live about 7 miles from the 99 cent store, so if i catch an err, i would have to waste time and gas to return to the store and replace my items. I am better off accepting the loss rather than wasting gas and technically spending more money.
I will admit that the 99 cents only store do save you lots of cash in your pocket by purchasing their produce, cleaners, and personal hygene products. Several other Misc. items as well. But you gotta be careful what you buy there and calculate what you can get somewhere else cheaper. good luck.
I hope the 99 cents corp. reads this, so they change their advertisements and their signs and make it right. be fair. ;)
