I brought my vehicle to the dealership and they wanted a little over $3000.00 to put a NEW transmission in. I took it to AAmco because they do rebuilds and the dealership doesn't. My thinking was it would be less exspensive. It has cost me $3854.00, and I' ve had to bring it back 3 seperate times for the same problem.

The first time a drove it I got 12 miles and the check engine light came back on. I called them when I got home and was told to bring it back. No big deal, lifes not perfect. I pick it up the second time and was told they checked their connections and turned off the check engine light.

Second try, go to work and on my way home, bam, check engine light. Bring it back and they call me and say they need to get a genuine Toyota part. (transmission control solenoid) Okay I say, 4 days later my cars ready. I have my friend go with me to drive it to my house and.....BAM! Check Engine Light. I only live 12 miles from these idiots that call themselves professionals.

I again bring it back and now they tell my they installed a defective torque converter. 8 days later I get my car back. ( In their defense 1 day was Christmas) I go to work and on my way home.....BAM! Check Engine Light. I call and they say its probably my motor, I say no my professional idiots I have a code reader and its the same code. Back it goes to the shop.

I've been without my car for at least 10 days in 2 1/2 weeks. They're corporate office says they can do nothing. No rental car. So I've had to rely on others. I argued with these idiots just to give me a 3 year warranty which they fought for awhile. I still don't have my car and as I type this they have called. "There's nothing wrong, the light just comes on for no apparent reason. We need to keep it and we'll look at it Monday." Today is Friday, and they're open tomorrow....I payed cash, big mistake. Please, if you have a problem with your vehicle, RUN FOR THE HILLS and go somewhere else.

This is why most sell their cars when their transmission goes out..

AUTHOR: LD - (United States of America)

I had a problem such as this several years ago where my car kept stalling on me and I had taken it to several mechanics and no one could determine why it kept cutting off. Finally I took it to Firestone and they supposedly fixed the problem but when I drove away from the shop the car cut off again. I took it back to Firestone and to make a long story short they fixed the car again....and again.. and again.. and almost $1,000.00 in I filed a complaint with the corporate office and finally the corporate office told me that they simply didn't know what was wrong with the car and they refunded the entire amount I paid back to me.

After I left Firestone I took my car to a shade tree mechanic who pulled the torque converter and told me I could drive maybe around 2 weeks before my transmission went out. He was right on the nail. Two weeks later I inched my car to the dealership where I traded it in on a new car. The salesman just looked at the car. Never drove it. Never had a clue the transmission was going out and this was a major dealership. Not one of the rinky dink ones. My car could only go about 15 miles an hour. It was pulling so bad.

I can't believe Firestone's "trained" (supposedly) mechanics couldn't figure out the problem but this shade tree mechanic with a cigarette hanging out one end of his mouth and a beer in the other hand did. Wow.

But back to your issue.. This is why most folks sell their cars when they have transmission problems. I don't know one person who has had a transmission "fixed" and I would never buy a car with a "rebuilt motor or transmission" unless I was rich and was a collector of antiques or something. Too many problems with rebuilt motors and transmissions.
