I have been paying for Account Secure Plus on two different Orchard Bank cards. In January, my husband who is the main breadwinner was laid off permanently from his job. I have been unable to make payments on these cards as I only make enough money to cover the mortgage payment, he is covering food, utilities, car insurance and car payment with unemployment. I applied for Account Secure Plus in Feb one month after he got laid off per their instructions. I received the packet and sent them all of his information, letter from his employer that his layoff was permanent, proof of unemployment insurance, copy of utility bill in his name to prove he lives in the home. Yesterday I get a call from Orchard Bank wanting a payment, I let them know I am waiting on Account Secure to take effect. They tell me it has been cancelled. I call Account Secure who tells me because I have not made any payments they are cancelling. I tell them it is being charged to the card, Then they tell me an examiner had mailed out a letter requesting more info. Low and behold the letter arrives that day. They want pay stubs for husband and myself two weeks prior to his layoff to prove he made more money,( not requested in the packet, it stated if you had a letter from employer, which he did. They also want proof he lives with me more than 50% of the time. I called Account Secure back and asked what info I would have to provide to prove my husband of 37 years lives with me more than 50% of the time. All I kept getting was " the examiner has asked for that information". Well I know that, so I ask how to call and speak to the examiner, as how am I supposed to give them information if I don;t know how I can prove someone actually lives with me, doesn't matter that same bank appoved his request for benefits at the same address.
I now have to FAX and only FAX my question to the examiner who will within 10 days get back with me. As far as I can tell there is no way I will be able to prove that my huisband does indeed live with me all of the time. So, I told them that this is a scam to get out of paying the benefits I have been paying for for the past 4 years.
The people are all from India and will not allow you to speak to a supervisor, dont know how to contact an examiner by phone and cannot tell you how you are supposed to show that the main breadwinner does live with you. I plan on filing a complaint with my states Attorney General Consumer Affairs department.
