AFLAC and their Mascot Duck do a great job of telling you what a great company they are, and how much you need them.  How they will help you with those unexpected medical expenses. It sounds great until you need to file a claim.

You are required to have the attending physician fill out AFLAC's Accident form. So while you lay there bleeding in the street with your broken limbs waiting for the ambulance, make sure and attach your portable printer to your Laptop and download and print the AFLAC accident form, for the attending physician to fill out and sign for you.

Of course AFLAC doesn't bother to tell you any of this when they are doing their little Dog and Pony show on TV or at your job. Why? Because if you knew the truth, you would never buy this rubbish supplemental insurance.  Ever wonder why AFLAC is so profitable?  It's because they make the claim process as difficult as possible.

Do yourself and anyone you know a favor, avoid AFLAC like you would A.I.D.S.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

You were not ripped off.

I have been an authorized Aflac rep for 10 years.   You do NOT need a Physician's Statement to file a claim under the Accident Plan.

Here is what you DO need, and it is not unreasonable at all:

1. On letterhead, a copy of the treatment report from where you went immediately following the accident.  Could be a walk-in clinic, doctor's office, Hospital ER, even a chiropractor.

2. The documentation must state HOW the injury occurred (common sense) and WHAT the injury IS. (Because different amounts are paid out for different types of injuries.)

3.  A claimant's statement; this is where you fill in your name, dob, address, date and time of the accidnet, and then you sign the bottom.  It's very easy to fill out.

Fax or mail this in to Aflac, and the average turn-around time is anywhere from 4-7 days.

No, I'm not being paid by the company, or anyone else, to post this.

Your sentence about lying in the street, bleeding, but having to use a printer at the same time is patently ridiculous.

One more thing:  You have up to 18 months to file a claim from the date of injury, and even THAT is not a hard and fast rule.  I've seen Aflac pay claims that were filed 3, 4, even 5 years after the fact.

Asking for proper documentation is not a big deal; as an associate, I tell all my policyholders that if they run into any challenges getting the right paperwork, STOP right away, and pick up the phone and call me. Then I take over, and, armed with a signed HIPPA release, I get the proper reports.  Everyone wins.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with an injury claim, but you are misinformed and jumping to conclusions.  There is a woman on here from Aflac Headquarters that will usually respond and try and help you out...I think her name is AflacPhyllis.

I'll bet you anything that you can contact her and she will assist you in getting your claim paid.

I hope you're man (or woman) enough to come back here and admit you were wrong.

It's a decent company.   Not perfect, but decent...and honest.  If you have a good agent, owning Aflac is a breeze.    I have thousands of policyholders and they are very happy with their coverage because my first priority is to make sure their claims get paid QUICKLY.

Best of luck, and don't give up...if this is indeed a covered claim, Aflac will pay it.

I don't get it.

" You are required to have the attending physician fill out AFLAC's Accident form. "

This would be standard procedure for any claim on any supplemental health / accident policy from any insurance company.   Do you expect them to just take your word for it?

"  So while you lay there bleeding in the street with your broken limbs waiting for the ambulance, make sure and attach your portable printer to your Laptop and download and print the AFLAC accident form, for the attending physician to fill out and sign for you.  "

I see the problem.  You should not be trying to complete claim forms while lying in the street bleeding.   If you wait for a more convenient time, the process is much easier.

  Good luck!
