Me and my husband started services with AHS on 12/01/08 after having a conversation with our mortgage sales rep. Sales rep described AHS as the best option for homeowners if repairs would be needed for appliances, plumbing or automatic garage opener. We did have our mortgage for couple of years and had no problems with them so far, so we decided to give it a try. The cost was around $42-$43 a month and Sales rep said that it could be refunded at any time if we were not satisfied with the service. Before signing up, we made sure that automatic garage opener as well as garage door was covered as this was the only thing that did not have any paperwork or any info about it when we bought the house. Sales Rep assured us that we would be covered and if any repairs would be needed, we would pay only fixed $60 for a visit of AHS technician; he gave us then service phone # and asked to identify ourselves if calling + verifying the property address. After having service with them for 6 months and them automatically withdrawing money from our checking account on the monthly basis, our garage door stopped working.
We made a call for a service and were told that we were not covered for a garage door, only for a garage opener and it was outlined in our warranty manual (which we never received, of course, as well as any other documents or even confirmation about starting a service with them). After arguing with the rep for about 20 min, we asked her to cancel our account and refund the money as we were explained false terms before signing with them. The rep answered that they did not provide any refunds and canceled our account. A week later, a draft for our mortgage occurred as well as the payment to AHS (this happened in the middle of June, 2009)! We contacted AHS again with questions and there was not even a note about closing the account. When we repeatedly asked to close account and to refund money at least from the payment that they just took, they said that accounting department can help us out (the phone # for accounting department is 18006693965) and transferred us to another representative.
Another rep told us that cancellation was made and would be posted within the next 48 hours. Couple of days later, we received a warranty coverage manual+account Number and nothing in the manual stated that our account was closed, just the opposite, it looked as we just opened the account with them. 2 weeks later our mortgage draft occurred + AHS payment. Me and my husband were furious at that point and called again and the Rep said that they can't close our account as it has to be done through the mortgage company. We called the mortgage company and they put the request through. But on the next mortgage draft, payment to AHS went through once again. We called our mortgage and finally got somebody decent who made a conference call with AHS and officially canceled our account on 08/25/09. As for a refund, we got $37.04 back out of $372.96 paid. We were not able to get in touch with anybody from accounting department, even though we tried on numerous occasions. This company is definitely a scam. Notice to consumers trying to find a good Home Warranty company: AHS is definitely not one of them.
