I made an appointment for an eye exam at AMERICA'S BEST CONTACT'S & EYEGLASSES...I arrived on time for my 10:30 A.M. appointment. The exam went well the gentleman doing the exam was very professional and friendly. After completing the exam he directed me to the area to look at eyeglasses. I noted that i was just there for an exam, "I HAD ALLREADY DECIDED TO BUY ONLINE BUT NEEDED THE CURRENT PRESCRIPTION WITH THE PD MEASUREMENT."

An employee got my eye exam chart and called my name. As we were sitting down i explained to him that i just wanted to pay for the exam and not purchase eyeglasses. I payed him the $45.00 dollar exam fee. As I was leaving and nearing the door I noticed all he gave me was the reciept and not the prescription. I went back to his desk and told him I wanted the eye Script. He said "Oh you are wanting the script...I'm sorry" have a seat.

I let him know that I was trying to save money in these tough economic times and was going to buy glasses online. As he was writing out my script I let him know I would allso need the PD measurement so as to buy glasses online. "THIS IS THE MEASUREMENT BETWEEN THE TWO PUPILS.'
He said that he needed to speak to the manager, which he did, they were both within hearing distance, he came back from speaking to the manager and said that it was against company policy to give ANYONE there pd measurement. The manager as he was walking by noted that this decision was based on policy.

I told the guy helping me I would price some glasses real quick while he was writing out the script, I came back with a pair of glasses and he priced them well above the 2 pair price of $99.99 at $157.95 for 1 pair but if I would consider buying 2 pairs I could get them for $201.95...not to mention the $45.00 dollar exam fee.. which would be a total of $246.95.......false advertisement at it's best....WHERE IS MY PD MEASUREMENT. There is a place on the script to write the pd measurement..it's blank. Needless to say I found the similar glasses online for $84.00.

Would anyone like to go to the Doctor and pay for an exam just to have the Doctor tell them they can't give them there height measurement because it's against hospital regulations. SCAMMERS. LEONARD COLORADO SPRINGS COLORADO.

A problem turned solution!

AUTHOR: Brazen - (United States of America)

I went into ABC&E to buy glasses. I was a walk-in, which they accepted. My first question after being greeted was is there a warranty or moneyback policy? I won't name names, but the lady said, "no, you have to pay for the warranty"! I was shocked and was thinking about leaving when another lady spoke up and said there's a 90 day satisfactory warranty on all our glasses. i was then handed a clip board to fill out my particulars. After that I was taken back to the exam room. I was given the tests by a respectable gentlemen. He informed me I had a large astigmatism in my right eye. I finished up is a very short amount of time, maybe 5 minutes. Then I was called into another room and the doctor finalized my lens with a few more test using a blurry lens then a clear lens. This took place about 5 more minutes. After all of this I was taken to the find the frames I wanted that came with the 2/$69 deal. The same lady that told me there was no warranty was the person helping me pick out my frames.

The problem was before I could select a frame she said to me, "you know the lenses that you're getting for you glasses have no protection and will scratch easily and I needed to really consider a sractch resistant coating so I would have a piece of mind. She crunched the numbers and said your total would be $290 for both pairs with the scratch resistance on all 4 lenses". I was about ready to explode and losing interest quickly in ABC&E. I asked the lady, "so are you telling me if I buy these glasses with no extra special coatings then it'd be like buying "a pair of off the rack at a gas station'? The lady shook her head and said basically. I politely told her that I'm here to purchase a pair of glasses and all you've done is tell me all the reasons why I shouldn't buy glasses at your store. I went to get up and leave, and she said let me get a manager. I reluctantly said ok...

This is where everything changed for the better! The manager came over and asked me if there was any way she could change my mind and retain me as a customer? I stated I was very frustrated and felt like this whole 2/$69 was a bait and switch offer!?.. I explained to her what my situation was and I was ready to throw the towel in. She asked if I'd come back to the customer service table? When I arrived she said here's what I'm prepared to do, "I'm willing to keep you at the same 2/$69 price and throw in the lab ultra violet coating, scratch resistant coating, the premium anti reflective coating, and a 1 year warranty". Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised. I asked for an itemized bill showing all the add ons and discounts. After that I asked for my prescription and I took the deal. I think the lady who almost killed the sale needs more training and the assistant manager needs to be given an award. I will be coming back to ABC&G for all my glasses and maybe someday contacts all because the assistant manager was there that day and handled the sale appropriately. I told her from now on I would like to deal with her and her only and she said ok.. So I'm a proud customer and now hoping my glasses are good to go. I've got about 3 more days before they're ready for pick up. Good luck to all the people who visit this company. Take your issue to the manager and be polite and you'll be surprised, I hope!

pd's

AUTHOR: bex - (United States of America)

pupilary distance, or PD's are not a part of the eye examination. some Doctors, albeit very few, do take this measurement as a courtesy procedure, on the otherhand as it is NOT relevant to the eye health examination most choose to disregard this additional step. the Pd is typically taken at the optical shop that orders the glasses for you., and can change the way your rx is perceived if not taken correctly.

under Hippa guidelines, the information of your medical examination must be shared with you and all information pertaining to your treatment. this means that if the doctor did not do the PD, and you did not purchase glasses, then the PD was not taken and therefor cannot be shared.

my suggestion is to go to your friendly neighborhood optician and just ask them if they will take your Pd  for you. Its a simple measurement and takes less than a minute.

but remember, in todays litigious society, Most people won't want to be held accountable for a product they didn't make, and giving you a measurement can make them liable for the resulting product.   good luck
