A couple of times when my DSL service was down, I loaded: [1]An 'AOL 1000 hours free' disc and another time: [2]An Earthlink 'free trial' disc. Although, even after giving both my credit card for the 'free period' I was successful in cancelling before the end of the free period, with no monthly billing (as others have complained).....But that wasn't the end....
Comments: Earthlink doesn't screw with the Windows settings as much as AOL, HOWEVER....when I deleted Earthlink the damn program deleted ALL my Hotmail and Outlook Express addresses.
AOL screws with the Windows basic settings, adds all kinds of $hit to your 'start up' programs, and makes other changes to ALSO make it difficult or impossible to access other ISP's you might have loaded. AOL's software presents difficulties on some web sites as well. Their damn software tries to take over your computer, particularly if your espond the the second prompt:"re-insert disc to load additional features" (or something similar). DONT DO IT!
