A.R. Building Company, AR Building Denied basic tenant rights outlined in the lease! Broke PA law. Harassment. Pittsburgh Pennsylvania

The building manager for our complex is rude, unprofessional, and has been consistently breaking the law with regards to our apartment. My fiancee and live in a small one-room efficiency that rents for $515.00 a month. Parking in an unmaintaned, non-security lot is $100.00 dollars a month extra. there is no air-conditioning. You can provide your own wall sleeve air conditioner and pay an extra $300 dollars per 11.5 months to have one.

We moved in October of '07 and our lease is up in the middle of August '08. They have been showing our apartment since February '08. Stated in the lease, and mandated by PA law, the landlord is required to give us 24 hours notice before showing the apartment.They have yet to do this ONCE, and have shown the apartment numerous times. On one occasion, she entered the apartment while I was sleeping (nude but covered with a sheet) and proceeded to show the apartment as I groggily woke up! You could clearly tell I had no clothing on, but she brought viewers in anyways! Another occasion she entered while my fiancee and I were having sex. We barely had time to race to the bathroom to avoid being seen. And she brought clients in then, too! She knocked briefly both times, but entered without permission and so quickly we didn't have time to respond.

I sent her a note requesting 24 hours notice be given to show the apartment. She told me that "this company does not give 24 hours notice before showing the apartment." By PA law, they are required to. We finally got advice from a lawyer, and informed our building manager. She still ignored our communications, by phone and letter, and attempted to show the apartment anyways. I denied her access.

Two days ago, she attempted to show the apartment again without notice. I denied her access, and she proceeded to be very rude and said she was going to show the apartment anyways in the afternoon. I had been sleeping since I work night shift at a local hospital. I dressed and went down to the lobby to discuss this with her. She was showing another apartment, and there were people who made an appointment waiting. When she came down to the lobby, she didn't see me standing and waiting. She then told the waiting clients "I can only show one apartment. The girl in the upstairs apartment is rude and won't let me in. It's dirty anyways." Our apartment is messy, but is livable. We don't have the mice or roaches that were present before we moved in. It's hard to keep a small one room apartment looking nice while working and going to school, and with two people and all their possessions living in it!

I announced my presence after her comment, and she responded by giving me attitude. She said "Are you going to let me show your apartment?" I said no. She said "Well why not?" And I informed her she had not given me 24 hours notice. I went back upstairs, and contacted her by phone later. On the phone, she proceeded to scream at me and admonish me for requesting a right that is mine by law!

Her behavior is rude and unprofessional. Her harassment needs to end, as well as her slander. She has no right or reason to tell people I am "dirty and rude". I have tried to work things out by giving her a schedule, but she refuses to be anything but unprofessional.

The reason I am posting this report is because there is no information to contact HER manager about her harassment and breaking into our apartment. AR Building company needs to correct this issue.
