If the Uverse reps come knocking on your door, offering you a 1-month free trial, be aware that if you sign up and decide not to stay with it within the 30-day period, you will still be billed $145. They will remove the charge when you call their customer service, but it will require 15-30 minutes and you will be transferred twice. From all my experiences with ATT, they make promotional offers which you will subsequently have to force them to honor.

We tried the Uverse package but found the internet unacceptably slow compared to Comcast. The TV package and DVR were superior to Comcast, but the internet was more important to us.

rep knocks or you call 'em

AUTHOR: Keith - (U.S.A.)

Same here, via a phone i was sold on "upgrading" my internet service. There was no mention of a installation charge, i got the bill today, $145 + was promised a free modem but they're charging me $75 for that.

In addition they also sold me on 6x faster service & fiber optics but that's not the case either. Instead a tech informed me that its just regular ol' dsl service & there are no fiber optics in neighborhood - at this time.

Then..... it took 3 days just to get service, 3 techs, 2 modems + countless calls to att.

Then.... i was contacted by customer service & was informed i'd get 1 month free service. I filed a complaint with the fcc and was contacted again by someone in executive customer service (or something like that title) and he promised 3 months free service for my troubles. That hasn't happened either as I'm already being billed for a partial months service.

Wish I had never signed on, it's not worth the hassles. Now I'll look into canceling my service. I agreed verbally to a years service that will probably be the only item they'll remember offering.
