Last year I signed up for new cellular service with AT&T. I eventually received a $50 "rebate" VISA debit card via U.S. mail(!) for each of the three phones I purchased.

When I attempted to use the cards, they were hardly accepted anywhere. Then, just a couple of months later, the cards expired! I lost over $80 from inaccesibility and expiration. What a ripoff! After the first number of attempts were rejected, I hated having to have the people in line behind me wait while the clerks requeued my purchases for another form of payment...and I attempted less and less. That must have been part of AT&T's plan. They got to keep the money! I still have all three useless cards.
