What she was responding to was my question on why I would not get the balance minus the $1500 for my General Education class that is mandatory. I should a got a check for $7500 they put in for the whole year at one time. She said the way it works is you have to take so many 10 Credits to qualify for Financial Aid, they hold all the money you don't get a penny, they keep that money and you have to take $16,500 worth of classes. You end up with a balance of 4-5k per year you owe. I was misled by both Sara Stone and Debbie Franco until money was available then the whole song changes. I read on the Internet that the reason that University of Phoenix does this is helps the Attendance Statistics, once they have all your Financial Aid money for the year you are done. Your recourse if you don't listen to me and make the mistake of going to this school is first of all unless your sure don't login to your first class or your done, you owe the whole amount it is in the Contract. If you do start and want to leave all you have to do is fill out the Official Withdrawl form on the University of Phoenix site, it should generate a email for your proof you did it. At this point if you only took one class, they have to Refund you back the Financial Aid they owe you minus the cost of the one class. They will lie to you and tell you can't cancel, but you can easily. By law they have to return any unused portion of you Financial Aid or contact a Lawyer most will jump on this no problem Pro Bono, they can't keep your money and the best thing to do is not go there, read the bad things other former Students and sadly even a good amount of their own Instructors have to say don't just take my word.

University does NOT receive all loans and Pell money up front. It comes in increments.
I don't know where you are getting your information, but you are mislead, totally. I have never
been asked for money out of pocket. I dot my "i" and cross my "t" all the time. I cannot believe
so many people have had a terrible experience but it is the ignornace of people that gets the
best of them. Why don't you contact the Department of Education to find out how the loans
work. THey will tell you the same thing. DUH>

from my Stafford Loans. I also receive the Pell Grant and they use that first. When I questioned why they would use free money first and I was told becuase the loans are set up through the government and so much money has to be asked for. I have always received my refunds and I have never been scammed. It seems to me that a lot of people are making complaints about this university because they do not ask questions and they do not understand the financial aid process. If there is a problem with financial aid they won't kick you out of class. Maybe you didn't understand the process. It does transfer to a four year college. I checked with UF University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, one of the top schools in the country and they take all of their credits. I even sent an email and have the response from UF that they take all of their credits. So I am not sure which school is scamming you but it's not UOP

She wasn't stating that she enrolled into only one class, she was saying that the first class you take do not do it. I've also been scammed by them a few years ago. I went to a college the previous year before, but I didn't re-enroll for the next year. I decided to stay home but at the time I was young dumb, and didn't want to go to any colleges in my state. I looked up Axia and thought it was easier, which it was at the beginning, but as I was applying i thought to myself that it was a bit too easy. They told me to file for my fafsa, but it was through another bogus website. Then they told me that I could use no other web browser besides IE. As i was applying they said that i would have to take out a "private loan" no sally mae but from a bank that I do business with or wells fargo. I thought that was going to far but they told me that in order for me to get my aid, i would have to go to one of these banks to get my loan. I started applying for that private loan but for some reason I stopped because I realized that it wasn't the same thing i was doing when I was going to my other college. So when i started asking them questions about how much the school tuition was, they would always tell me it depends on the loan amount I would get. So the next day I called them up and lied, told them I got denied for my loan. So they asked me to fax over my taxes from the year before, which i did, and the next day I called them up they said they never got them, and they did this for 2 weeks. Then finally they told me when I was able to start taking my class, meanwhile, they still didn't get my Fafsa in order. I was enrolled in 4 classes to be consider as a full time student. I started taking them and but the classes didn't seem to be teaching anything. So when I tried to pull out because i notice my computer was acting slow, they told me I couldn't and that I would have to buy a new computer or go to a library. I told them I didn't have access to another computer and I would like to drop my classes. They refused me so I ended up failing. Then they called me and told me that I would owe a balance of 1700 in order to start my classes over and to finish. I told them no thank you (thinking that my fafsa was covering my cost). 6 months to a year later they called my house saying that I owe them 1700. I told them that one of the personnels told me that i would have to pay out of pocket if i wanted to retake the classes but I didn't and I wasn't able to go forward until i passed those classes. From what I know from all classes, that if you missed a certain amount of classes that you are withdrawn from those classes and not consider as failed. and also if you get a gpa under a 2.0 you will not get aid for the rest of that school semester. I only attended those classes for a week before my computer started acting up from being on the website ( which is why they tell you to sign a paper, that they also never sent, saying that they are not entitled to any problems that goes wrong with your computer after being on their site) when they started calling me to get their money, some guy name John was yelling cursing at me and telling me i better pay or else, and then he hung up. When i called back the number was forward to some tredmil advertisement line. The part where they messed up at, is that everyone knows that Fafsa has records of schools that students have applied to on their website when you redo your fafsa and that school is not listed under my account. That school does not deal with the government because they know that they are just trying to get people's money. and its been 4 years that i applied but only took one class after being signed up for 4 but only started one class, and they just sent me a letter yesterday asking for money. These people have yet to call me since then and i have yet to recieve any information from them until yesterday. So they must be asking for money to pay for their court fees because from my aid records I am not consider as a student there because they were not supposed to start me until they had their first payment in hand.

You are right when it applies to a Community College which I enrolled in for 1/3 the cost per credit hour, you need to call UOPX and get you facts straight, if you have not been through the experience how can you comment? How do you know I was not planning to add a class later that week. You also are giving validity to place that puts in for the whole year of Financial Aid including Pell Grant. I also was eligible for Financial Aid with one class because University of Phoenix is for profit so once again get your facts straight by going through the actual experience like me. I also will receive a check for the full amount of Aid from the Community College and I pay for Classes, Books myself the way it has always been done.
Although I am not a big fan of the for-profit schools, there is some information in your post that bears correcting. Towards the end of your post you stated: At this point if you only took one class, they have to Refund you back the Financial Aid they owe you minus the cost of the one class.
This is not totally correct. Financial aid is based on, and awarded for, an academic semester or year, and you typically have to be enrolled full time. If you only took one class, you would be considered a part time student, thus ineligible for financial aid (student loans). Consequently, all aid should be returned to the lender, and you pay the full cost of the course.
You are correct that they can't keep your money, but loan money would be returned to the lender, not the student. If she told you you have to be enrolled for 10 credits, then that is the minimum number of credits you would have to be enrolled into receive aid. Unfortunately, the financial aid process isn't adequately explained to potential students and these schools convince them to enroll before aid is even awarded. The process can take months, yet ROR is full of reports of students who called for information and were enrolled the same day. All I can say is future students should be VERY careful about enrolling in these types of schools. Your local community college may be a better place for you.
