Able Translations has been bad at making payments to me for months now. I keep asking them for payment and they only give answers like: "I am checking, will have an answer in the next couple of days" or leave a message to accounting, but nothing concrete about payment.

This is not the first time this happens to me. I have contacted other interpreters and met other interpreters in the field and all report a similar situation, to the point that most are simply not taking appointments from Able Translations at all.

To their customers I am sure they invoice and get paid fine. Their director/owner just took a nice long holiday, so money is not an issue, Able Translations not only has been refusing to pay interpreters, they also have a unilateral contract where interpreters have no recourse and have to wait first for 2 months before getting payment for their work and then are lucky if get paid. [continued below]....

.....

Other agencies do a much better work at taking care of their interpreters. Even WSIB is starting to use other agenceis (when before they would by default go to Able Translations).

For interperters and translators out there, I would recommend Exacta Interpreting and All Languages. They are far better at honouring their payments and don't make interpreters wait for 2 months before issuing payment (of sometimes small amounts which is ridiculous).

Interpreters get paid between 18 and 30 dollars an hour while Able Translations charges their clients between 80 and 120 dollars an hour. To top it off, not being able to pay the interpreters?

For any interpreters that plan on working for Able Translations, they may be ok for now, but they are systematically skipping on payments. You've been warned, you will end up getting the run-around for months and no payment for your work.

Able Translations deserves poor reviews, but I doubt anyone wants to go out in public.

#1 General Comment

Able Translations not all bad

AUTHOR: Antonio - ()

For the past little while, I have seen a few negative comments about Able Translations, and their delays in payment. I am a translation service provider that has been supplying Able for over four years now. Although I admit that I have been frustrated trying to get my payment a few times in the past year or so, I also have to admit that cheques have been coming in and that they are getting better. Although they still have a delay in their payments, they are now paying regularly, and are starting to catch up. I also find that if we keep a good attitude and act as professionals, we are better served.

I agree that things have been tough for Able the past few months, but who hasn't felt the squeeze in these times of recession. I am certain that other companies are also having difficulties. At least Able has not declared bankruptcy, in which case, rather than being paid late, we would not be paid at all. I, myself, have had to change careers (to become a translator). I had just graduated from a PhD and was on my way to a cushy job as a professor, when all the openings in my (supposedly) promising domain dried up.

Able was, and still is, a good company to work for. They have a great project management team and a great document management system that makes working for them, in my experience, more pleasant than working for other companies. It takes time to recover from losses and economic downturns, and to expect them to catch up and pay everyone what is owed at the same time is unreasonable.

We can all certainly get up, walk away and send legal notices to be paid, leaving Able with no supplier base with which to continue in business. Or worst yet, take jobs and sabotage them on purpose to make them loose their clients. I do not think these steps are necessary, or prudent. If we all did this, the business would definitely go under and nobody would get paid!

In conclusion, I think that Able is turning things around, and working for them will return to the way it was prior to the difficulties they have had. I say we should be patient and give them a chance to show us their worth again!

#2 UPDATE Employee

Able Transaltion did not pay me.

AUTHOR: Windsor leady - ()

Hello,

I had been hired as an interpreter and signed a contract with able translations. in early April 2014. I started my first appointment successfully in April 22ed 2014. For six months from the mentioned dates tell the end of September 2014 I did not receive not even one payment form the many appointments I had went for. I sent Able Translation  several emails through thier coordinators like Rim Rhma, Catherine,  Mareata  and  to Amreet the person who had hired me. Furthermore, I phoned the owner Anabella Teashee many times leaving her messages.   Neither Anabella teashee, nor Necola the  are answering me, nor paying me. I strongly believe that legal actions should be done to support the unpaid interpreters like myself. More importent, is that Anablea Teashee should be in Jail now for steeling my payments, and taking advantage of me. I have a copy of the signed contract and the originals copies of the appointments. I am ready  to hand the Police with these documents and emails I had received form Able translations.

Thanks,
