I  signed on with AFC in April 2010. I had 6 credit cards I defaulted on. After 26 payments to them for their fee of over 6000.00, I was required to keep saving to pay off creditors. In November 2011, I was able to settle 3 out of 6 accounts ith the help of AFC. November 2011 was the last I had heard from AFC .

In January 2013, I was checking my credit report when I saw a hard inquiry from a law firm in Florida representing one of my creditors. On my own I was able to resolve it and I let AFC know on Jan 3, 2013. I had not heard from them at all until I contacted them in June 2013 to give them info from a lawfirm trying to contact me about a bad account. I was told that they (AFC) will go ahead and contact the last 2 creditors to see what they would accept. In a email from Debbie at AFC, she said it will probably take a couple of weeks to reach the creditors and find out who is handling my accounts and that they will get back to me about it.

June 28, 2013 I get a call from CLC - Consumer Law Council LLC (877-913-2110) saying they were given my accounts from AFC and I was to contact them. Hailey is the person who called.

I emailed AFC on June 28,2013 and again on 7/1/2013 to find out what was going on and if this was legit or what. Finally on July 3, 2013, I got a email back from Debbie at AFC saying that yes my account has been transfered to CLC, LLC (law firm) who is very good and they will be representing me.

My agreement with AFC was for 5 years. I had until April 2015 to settle all my accounts.

I finally spoke with Hailey at CLC LLC on 7/19/2013 and they would be handling my last 2 accounts because AFC has not had success. They send me a agreement via email to sign & now CLC LLC wants 3000.00 to handle my accounts.

People - you can settle your accounts on your own...I found this out the hard way...You do not need to contact aa debt settlement company.

Today I settled an account by talking with a law firm representing one of my creditors  for what CLC LLC wanted me to give them. The law firm will be debiting my account on July 31,2013.

So I emailed back CLC, LLC to let them know I will not be "hiring" them to represent me. They called me & a supervisor got very nasty with me when I told him I was able to resolve the account in question and that I had already contacted an attorney who is helping me with another legal matter  to find out if I can doing anything about all the money AFC took from me and how they "transfered" my account to another company with out my knowledge or approval. He told me that if I had already retained a attorney to represent me why did I waste their time. I told him that my attorney is handling a different matter.

I told this guy that I was up all night thinking about how AFC took over 6k from me and that there was another 2 yrs left to settle the accounts and now his firm wants another 3k up front to settle the last 2 accounts..what a scam these debt settlement companies run. He hung up on me.

its like they kick you harder when your down and they think your going to buckle under the pressure & fear  to "help you from being sued"

Save your hard earned money. Contact your creditors on your own. You CAN work something out with them.

Don't let fear or panic cause you more unnecessary hardship than what you have already incurred.

This was a hard lesson for me to learn and now I want to help others so they don't lose their money to a company claiming to help you....

and by the way....you will receive a 1099 in the mail at the end of the year if you settle with credit card company for less than what you owe...ex you owe 5000.00 and they settle for 3800.00 ...they will send a 1099 for 1200.00 as if it is income. If you settle for 4400.00 then you wouldn't get a 1099 for the remainder of 600.00..
