I patronize Adams feed store occasionally, only because they are the only ones within a 10 mile radius that carries the brand of dog food I feed. I am constantly appalled at the uncleanliness of the facility and the rudeness of the staff. When you walk into the place the smell alone could knock you down. I have observed dead birds left in cages of extremely overcrowed conditions, filthy water containers, and puppies in small overcrowded cages that are urine stained and very dirty. There are dust balls and cobwebs hanging from the walls and ceiling. I have tried to overlook the situation to save driving time, but today it all came to a head. I am a dog lover and to see the puppies in this type of enviornment is disgusting. I offered to purchase one puppy in particular today, at a discount off the asking price, that I have watched virtually grow up in the small overcrowed cage. This puppy has been there several months and is now adult size for it's breed. I held the puppy and upon inspection noted that it had possible ear infections and was covered in dried urine, was filthy and smelled atrocious. I was prepared to pay a discount price for the puppy and hopefully rehome it, a rescue if you will. The young man and woman at the counter became very short and refused to even discuss any type of discount or to even contact the person that could authorize one. They virtually snatched the dog off the counter away from me and placed in back in the pen and turned their backs on me, signaling the conversation was over. I left vowing to never patronize Adams Feed Store again for any reason and do everything in my power to discourage any person I come into contact with from doing business with them. So please, do not perpetuate their greedy puppy mill business by buying the puppies. Without a source for their sales, puppy mills will dry up and puppies will not end up being sold in feed stores in deplorable conditions. Trust me there are wonderful dogs at the animal control shelters and rescue organizations that are begging for good homes. Please do the right thing and don't get suckered emotionally into buying puppies in feed and pet stores. They all come from puppy mills.

RE: Ugh

AUTHOR: consumer - ()

I know for a fact that Adams Feed Store never overfills past legal capacity. They are very strict regarding when and if they will take in particular animals and pets. They not only need to be healthy, but they also follow strict capacity and legal rules. If they have these so called 'illegal' animals, they were placed there by authorities. Adams Feed Store has taken in abandoned healthy animals from Vet Clinics in order to find them homes. I have seen their fish aquariums numerous times and may be you should ask management direct questions about the fish or make a suggestion instead of trying to sabotage an establishment. I have had to wait until some kittens were sold before bringing them mine. They follow strict guidelines and then do a health check on every animal that comes in their doorway. They also provide veterinary care at their expense to ensure animals stay healthy. Please back up your story with documented evidence that illegal activity took place. I do not believe Ugh's report.

Adams Feed Store

AUTHOR: consumer - ()

Adams Feed Store has been in my area for a long time. The people are kind, helpful and very customer service oriented. The store IS CLEAN and always updated. I purchased my dog there which we love dearly. They even screened me prior to purchase and gave me an excellent free first visit coupon to Alamo Vet Clinic. They have been super helpful with pet supplies over the years and even help with solutions when needed. I had two cats that both got pregnant just before I was about to get them both fixed. Adams Feed Store not only helped me remedy my problem with the kittens, but have also offered suggestive advice. They sold my kittens to good homes within just days. I owe much gratitude to this establishment.

My friend owns a few horses and they provided great services to her as well. Whoever wrote that awful report against them didn't see what a great store this really is. On behalf of Adams Feed Store, they are not a rip off. It is a one of a kind store that is valuable to the city of Arlington, Texas.

My thanks to the Adams Feed Store Team!!!!

The reason the puppy was so much older is because they do not let go of animals to kill shelters!!!!!!!!!  The person that wrote what they wrote against Adams Feed Store needs to wake up and realize this. They will take care of the animal until it sells or finds a home. If it looked filthy, then they must have not gotten to that cage yet...and the report was"jumping the gun" because I see them cleaning cages and maintaing that store everytime I walk in.

I have been to that trench of a feed store a few times. The peopel there are terribly rude, don't know anyhting about their products, and are nothing but attitude. If you ask a question, they just roll their eyes. The fish tanks are covered in algea, the reptiles are native Texas species, for the most part, and thereby illegal to sell. They sell red eared sliders that are below the legal size and do not have the "for education purposes only" sign. The dogs there are deplorable and disgusting. They need to be barred from having pets on site

Support Adam's Feed Store

AUTHOR: Adams Feed Store - (United States of America)

I've had the opportunity to patronize Adams Feed Store on several occasions over the last 6 months.  Having met the owner and staff I can tell you that they care about the store, the animals and their customers.

After reading many reviews, most of them outdated, the main issue with most complaints surrounds the puppies and live animals to a lesser degree.  The animals in the store are on consignment until purchase and receive quality and humane treatment from the staff while in their care.  All animals receive routine veterinary care and vaccinations.  Adam's only accepts healthy animals.  Adams Feed does not breed animals, nor do they accept any animals from puppy mills.

But they do accept live animals, on consignment.  This appears to be the main issue that several folks have.  The puppies are up front in the store in either a large cage with shredded newspaper, food and water bottles, or in smaller cages.  They are put in smaller cages for their safety.  Having breed and raised many puppies over the years I can tell you that puppies have a smell all their own!  And several together make a stink!  They play hard and they sleep hard - sleep, eat and grow and dare I say it, poop! The store cleans the cages daily.  They provide water and food daily.  They even bond with the puppies.  Some sell quickly, others take longer.

While the complainant may have wanted to help in purchasing the puppy in question, the store cannot offer a discount since the animals are on consignment.  And while her intentions may have been good, perhaps talking to the store manager aside or in a quiet setting may have better served her.  Her emotional posting goes as far as to indicate the puppies are from puppy mills.  She offers no proof and wrongly indicates ALL feed and pet stores sell puppies supplied by puppy mills.

The store and management have taken great strides over the past year to seriously consider valid concerns.  They've hired a weekly cleaning service in addition to their daily cleaning.  They've created a website and outlined their standards for "live animals".  They hold numerous feed and animal educational clinics at the store.  They hold monthly low cost vet clinics at the store.  Their staff routinely has meetings to discuss customer service skills and training.   Adam's supports the local community, hosting toy drives at the holiday season, they work with the local FFA and 4H groups and supply feed and show products.  They make many charitable contributions to animal rescue groups.

It is unfortunate that this one posting ranks so high for online searches. Over the last several months the positive postings have far out weighted the negative ones.

I encourage you to support Adam's Feed Store.  Let them know about the positive changes you've seen.  I for one will continue to visit them.

adams feed store meets diverse needs

AUTHOR: barlycrn - (United States of America)

There is one excellent rebuttal already to this report, but I must add my positive experiences, as it must be detrimental to this business to have ripoff report as a high hit in google searches.  I am an owner of 2 dogs and a cat and have frequented adams feed store since moving to Arlington in 2004.  I've never seen the animals in the described conditions, and I frequently take my children to the store just to visit the animals.  I usually see the staff in the midst of caring for the animals.  They are a great local option to big-box pet stores.  When I wanted to start suburban chicken raising, I found the staff friendly and informative and a one-stop resource for this new venture.  There are cobwebs and dust and generally a barnyard feel, but that's a good bit of the charm for me.

Adam's customer

AUTHOR: Redisent16 - (U.S.A.)

I have been a customer of Adam's feed store for 16 years and I have purchased many pets from him. His personnel has always been kind to me and if someone does not like the way his personnel treats them, they dont have to shop there. I have seen the conditions improve over the years and though there are things that could improve, I have seen his personnel continue to attempt to keep up with the massive amount of work that animals require. If you go in with the condescending attitude that you are going to save an animal from these "horrible" people, do you really wonder why you were treated with disrespect? We need to support small business.
