I received Advanta's letter the other day offering me the choice to either close the account or pay 37% interest on new charges 45 days retroactively effective Jan. 19, 2009. Are the people making these decisions at Advanta out of their minds?

I never missed a payment, was never late on a payment, always paid 3x the minimum required payment, never went over limit and I have a high FICO score to boot. Originally I went with Advanta for their attractive and fair 7.99% rate. Interest rates have fallen radically since then yet this company is deliberately attempting to take advantage of Americans before Congress' new regulations to curb these renegade loan shark credit card companies go into effect in 2010, (a day late and a dollar short).

So this is how Advanta treats their banking customers who have never exceeded their credit limit nor ever missed or been late on a payment?

Sounds to me like upper management is trying to cover their mistakes by sticking it to whoever will agree to such completely ridiculous terms. Also sounds like upper management will be in the unemployment line soon, the Advanta ship is obviously sinking if they've already sunk this low.

Usury (pronounced /'ju???ri/, comes from the Medieval Latin usuria, "interest" or "excessive interest", from the Latin usura "interest") originally meant the charging of interest on loans. The word means the charging of unreasonable or relatively high rates of interest.

Is this organization controlled by organized crime? I don't see he difference.

Once Again You've Proved Your Full of Hot Air and Now Your Making Up False Data

AUTHOR: DEC458@MSN.COM - (U.S.A.)

You failed yet again. Not surprising.

As with many others, once caught in a corner, all they can cry is that some rational response must be an employee. Once again, you are wrong.
Why would I have to be an employee to understand the terms and conditions of a card or the way that having credit cards actually work? Is there some secret credit card cabal that regulates this and somehow I have cracked there password to join this elusive club?

I had this card and opted out when they wanted to raise the rate. It's pretty simple and the only real advice anyone can give.

That is all anyone can do as credit cards are not owed to us. You are discrediting yourself by not providing the information to back up your claims.

People can say all they want that they allegedly didn't receive an opt out notice...I did so I opted out. I don't deliver their mail, I don't read their mail.

Since you want to play the 'your an employee' angle, why would I be telling people to opt out and not use the card if I worked for them? I would think that the company would need that income. All anyone has to do is send an opt out letter.

I sent mine technically a month late and they accepted it. But, that's not what they really want to do much like yourself.

You still want the card on your terms but it doesn't work that way.

John Works for Advanta

AUTHOR: DEC458@MSN.COM - (U.S.A.)

John,

I just figured out why you are constantly trash talking everything I have constructively tried to say. Do you work for Advanta? How much is Advanta paying you to try and discredit everything everyone says? I can tell you do, by all the nice things you have said in their defense. I think it's rather obvious your on here posing as another of their credit card holder who supposedly opted out when your really an Advanta employee.

Funny thing is you say you opted out, but there is little credibility in your statement since all the complaintents here say they didn't receive an Opt Out notice. That is the main complaint in all of them. If Advanta had sent this so called Opt Out notice, then 99% of the people would have opted out if they could have. Advanta did not give them that opportunity even though they claim they did. So sure you can opt out if you are given the chance required by law at least 15 days in advance of any change.

I never said there were two cases, only 1. I am not a personal friend of Mr. Feldman. I never said anyone has a constitutional right to have a credit card. I never said that I wanted to still do business with them or by my terms only. Where do you come up with all this trash?

Complaint: I PREVIOUSLY SENT IN COMPLAINT #147. I SUED THEM AND HIRED AN ATTORNEY. THE CASE WAS TO BE HELD ON 11/21 IN DISTRICT COURT IN PA. THE ATTORNEY WITH ADVANTA CALLED MY ATTORNEY AND ADVANTA REFUNDED ME 2,056.00 IN EXCESS INTEREST CHARGES PLUS ATTORNEY FEES OF 782.00. YOU CAN SUE THEM AND WIN. ADVANTA THEN CLOSED THE ACCOUNT AND RAISED MY INTEREST RATE TO 21% ON THE REMAINING BALANCE. I INTEND TO PAY THEM THE BALANCE OF ABOUT 8,500 ASAP. THANKS AND GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE WHO HAS PROBLEMS WITH ADVANTA.

Nothing juvenile about it.

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

I see you read the charles handbook.
You are making claims - apparently false ones - and got called on it.
Anyone can play the 'call this person/that person game'.
If there indeed was a court case (funny, it was previously 2 cases now it's seems to only be 1), then post the case number and court it was held in so it can be researched. It would be public knowledge. It's quite simple really.
And since you allege to know this person, it should be a cinch to get that information. YOU are making the claim. YOU are the one who has to prove your claim. YOU are the one telling others that it can be done. Why are you giving them false hope when you can't back it up?
Again, if you don't like the terms of the card, you can opt out (the only true advice you can give) as it is not a constitutional right to have a credit card.
You allege to want to see their demise (though your posting contradict this as you still want to do business with them but under YOUR terms only) then by everyone just ceasing to do business with them would do exactly that.
You can use the 'won't allow information' BS all you want in regard to a phone number. It doesn't matter as you would be allowed to post a case number and court of origin for this alleged case.
The only hot air are all your wannabe hero responses with no fact.

Scott Feldman - Doylestown, PA

AUTHOR: DEC458@MSN.COM - (U.S.A.)

That's ok John. Everyone can see through your juvenile response. I gave the name of the attorney in Doylestown, PA and the client. If you were truly interested in finding out, you would call him. I never said I talk to this attorney all the time. I just said I have talked with him once on a conference call with other small business owners. I would be glad to pass on more details, but this website deletes phone numbers and website addresses.

I really could care less whether you believe me or not, nor does anyone else. It serves no purpose for me to pass thiis information along if it wasn't true or of any help. Why don't you hang out somewhere where your verbal nonsense would be useful to someone other than the hot air you are currently writing into your responses.

Since you allegedly talk to him all the time

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

get the case number from him as well as the court it was held in. Anyone can make believe they are anyone on a phone so your 'make a call' backpedal won't work. Post the info as you are only losing more credibility with every excuse. It's alright, you can tell us you made it up to appear important. Charles does it all the time.

Again, they do not OWE you a credit card....no one does. It is not an entitlement nor a right. Since you don't like the change in terms, opt out like I did. Use another company's offerings.

Response to John

AUTHOR: DEC458@MSN.COM - (U.S.A.)

Dear John,

In response to your claim that you don't think anyone has won a lawsuit, a small business owner named Frank Van Buren won a small claims suit against Advanta filed in small claims court in Philadelphia by attorney Scott F in Doylestown, PA. If you want to verify this (and I know because I talked with him), call him and see for yourself. His website is (((Redacted)))

As for the other user that runs their business on cash only, your are the exception and not the rule. It is nice you can do that, but not all can. A lot of the construction industry small business owners and others have been hit hard by the economy and are not as fortunate as you are. I commend you for being in this position, but most people just can't do that. A lot of the victims did nothing wrong other than try to expand their business because Advanta suckered them into their 0% for 15 months which they would have paid off in 15 months. Advanta jacked their rates to 30-37% before they ever got there.

CUT 'EM UP

AUTHOR: Cat - (U.S.A.)

Cut the cards up and get the debt out of your life. It is possible to run a business without debt. My husband and I have and although it takes longer to run I do not have to worry about my interest rate going up since I do not have one and I have no debt to make me nuts. It is time to stop the foolishness and to hand the cards back to them. The only ripoff is that people are still stupid enough to still use them. If people would get off the debt merry-go-round they would have to lower rates because they would be desperate for business. As long as people still buy into the lies that we need credit cards to live they will RUN your life. If you do not like the rates stop using the card. It is that simple.

No one is making you keep or use the card.

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

I don't get any of you people. You are not 'entitled' to ANY credit offering yet you all somehow feel you are. If you don't agree to the terms, then opt out. I sure did. And will the clown posting that there are allegedly court cases that Advanta lost about this, by all means post the proof (posting what someone else allegedly said is hearsay and not proof) with docket numbers so it can be researched.
