In October 2013 our security alarm went off. We didn't get a call from our security company and paid monthly for monitoring per bank draft. I knew earlier in the summer we had an alarm and they didn't call and I didn't take time to call them. I thought it was just a one time thing and maybe I shut it down before they got the alert. In Oct. I knew they should have called. We have been with this company, Advantage Protection since 2005 and always have had Vonage phone service. The monitoring system had always worked. When I called them out in Oct. 2013 because they did not call, they came out and said that our system no longer worked with our phone system.
It would be necessary for us to update to a new internet based system. The additional cost was close to $200.00 and I wrote them a check to update. That evening my husband came home and he did not want the update and wanted to go to a different system. I cancelled with Advantage Protection and they refunded the money I gave them. They however have continued to draft our account each month for a monitoring charge, knowing they could not monitor our system. My husband was in our account in May 2014, and just noticed this. I contacted them and told them about this and they said I never cancelled service with them in writing.
In Oct. they determined I had no service which they could provide without an upgrade which I turned down. I have spoken 2 times to Joel or Josh and he refused to go back to October and refund my money. Also last month once again, in July 2014, they drafted again after I emailed them and ask them to stop. I have no choice but to take them to small claims court to collect the $287.59 from October until now. I also had to pay a $20 stop payment on my accout to stop further drafts from them. I plan to take it to small claims court and seek that amount, even though there were several other months we thought we were monitored and were not. This is not the way to treat your customers who have been long term!
